When she was that small she used to sit on my head when we were outside. I always wear a cap and she easily climbs and perches. I would talk with visitors and she would sit up there purring.

I think these kittens' mother is named Hubbard.

I’m not at all what you could call a cat lover. It’s dogs for me. But a few years back a little tabby showed up here and adopted us. She liked us all, even the dogs. She and Eli became buddies. Knowing the life-span of outdoor cats out here I didn’t name her. She was just Cat or sometimes Miz Cat. She was with us two years before something got her, probably a coyote or an owl. We miss her.

Pretty cat. Yes, they come and go. I have lost so many. Predators have to eat so I do not blame them. I have a core groups of five here and I hope they stick around. I love cats and cannot imagine a home without them. Mice are not much of an issue here, happily. Before cats came, I was plagued by rodents. First cat showed up in 2012 or so. He is still with me. Bless his heart.

Here's a shot of Lily, our indoor cat, from six years ago in her younger, thinner days. We adopted her and ever since then she's grown in all directions. Everytime I take her in for her annual checkup and shots, the vet always gives me the same speech about her weight.

This is my cat, Glisa. I didn’t name her and she answers to cat or pretty kitty most commonly. I’ve had her for ten years now. I got her and her brother who died about a year and a half ago when they were so small that both could fit in my palm. The parents of one of my stepson’s friends had found a dead mother cat with her almost dead kittens and they bottle fed them until they were better. Glisa and her brother were two of them. I have also been feeding a stray in hopes of bringing him in, Glisa likes him, which is unusual for her. He is one of the most scared cats I’ve ever run across so it’s going slow. Actually I feed every stray and neighbor’s cat that comes around.

Some great stories and nice looking cats. I like cats just fine, but I'm mildly allergic to them. I do try to help out the odd stray now and then. At my old place, there was one that used to come around late at night when I was on the patio having a smoke. I'd give him a meal and, when he'd let me, put him in my lap and pet him a while.
He got into a tangle with a raccoon and lost.

So what's the deal with cat toys? When we had two cats, Lily and our late Grover, we bought all kinds of stuff. One big dud as a fabric fish with an internal mechanism that would make it flop around. The cats weren't the least bit interested and must have thought it was stupid. LOL We've gone through the plastic balls with bells inside and even a short fishing pole that would cast a feather and "worm" across the room. Grover loved it. Lily? Meh. Not so much. Not too long ago, either Janet or I got the idea of taking the plastic lock ring, the part that stays on after the lid is opened, from a mayo jar. Milk gallon jugs have smaller ones that can be used, too. Success! A free cat toy that Lily will carry in her mouth, sneak up on, and sit upon. Go figure.

I think of “cat toys” as actually being human toys for cat owners. I’ve had cats almost continuously for nearly fifty years and I’ve never found a cat toy that could beat out some random object that the cat found interesting. My cat enjoys playing with toilet paper tubes and lately she’s been excited about a piece of tissue paper that she will carry around and sit on. That’s it. Scratching devices are another story, those always seem to be hits.

Yeah coalsmoke, she been cracking me up with that tissue paper. She’ll carry it to a spot she likes and set it down. Then she will look at it for up to a minute and then re-adjust it, maybe moving it a few inches over, look at it for a while again and then finally sit on it. Then she’ll just sit there for a while, not doing anything. A couple days ago it was in the hallway and I almost slipped on it, the cat was nowhere to be seen, so I folded it and put it on the back of a chair and went to the bathroom. I came out 3-4 minutes later and there she was in the middle of the room sitting on the paper. She’s never done anything like it before but it’s been entertaining.

Some dogs. Eli likes. Jack thinks “Meh.” Well, at Jack's age, most things are meh to him, no? My brother's 2 dogs get no end of entertainment from it. Chasing that little red dot around the back yard is their nightly exercise. The older one is getting up there in years, too, but she's not overly bright. Everything's new to her every day. Sorry for derailing with dog talk.

We now have 4...I think that's about 4 too many. While I love cats, they're doing my head in. 😂

Sometimes a cat can develop pica, a weird eating disorder. Anyway, when my Mom was still alive, she would throw hair ties and my cat, "Peanut", would chase them and retrieve them. Found out a year or two late after we had moved, he hawked up a whole wad of them that he had stored away in his stomach. Well, I think he must have gotten most of them out as he is still with me at 15 years old. I couldn't afford a vet at the time so it was a wait and see kinda moment. There were these little cat toys we used to get, they looked kinda like real mice almost. The fur was actually rabbit fur, and they would toss them all around and chase them, etc.
