The founder of Custom-Bilt pipes and inventor of The Doodler shape. I own a few Custom-bultis, and one Doodler, by Tracy, but the story that came with this pipe, is that at the beginning of Tracy's career, his twin brother Terry also carved pipes and sold them in the store located on the University of Virginia campus, and run by their parents . The pipe is similar to the Custombuilt in carving, except for two smooth panels on the bowl, and the shank is on the beefy side as well. I' haven't done any research other than the family story that came to me by e-mail from the orignal owner. I've just always called a Terry Mincer pot.

There's not a single mention of this in Bill Unger's entire 250-page definitive book on Custombilt and Tracy Mincer, I'd have to call that a farce but not entirely certain. There was a Mincer's shop at UVA that opened in 1948 founded by a Robert and Clara Mincer and their son Robert later joined them. They did sell pipes and pipe tobacco but they were of no relation to Tracy Mincer or Custombilt heritage. Makes me wonder if they decided for a brief few years to cash in having the same last name. This is very interesting information I'd never heard of prior to you mentioning this. I'll have to do some more digging at a later time.
I'm smoking 2016 C&D Epiphany in a Mark Twain cob.

Well Well , I never followed through with the Mincer family history; if the Mincer family never were blessed with twin, pipe-making sons, then the whole story turns to crap, and the best outcome would be if it were an early Track mincer pipe...still, it is a good smoker...but I feel a bit outsmarted.

Herb, maybe you could post a couple pictures at some point of the stamping and to show the overall shaping and carving? The best outcome would be to find out that it's an early Tracy Mincer and not some long-lost secret twin living in Virginia!
