The fact is, the pipe has no markings and now it seems to me that the story came about to enhance the value of an unmarked pipe. If my photo skills, with a flip phone were worth the time and effort, you'd see how I might fall for the concept that the pipe might indeed be the early work of Tracy or the brother ,who may or may not be a falsehood. One upside here, is that it's a good smoker and the price was reasonable, for a pipe that could hide with ease in a rack of CustomBuilt's...going forward, I'll refer to it as, my would-be Custom-built pot.

Tracy Mincer. The founder of Custom-Bilt pipes and inventor of The Doodler shape. I own a few Custom-bultis, and one Doodler, by Tracy, but the story that came with this pipe, is that at the beginning of Tracy's career, his twin brother Terry also carved pipes and sold them in the store located on the University of Virginia campus, and run by their parents . The pipe is similar to the Custombuilt in carving, except for two smooth panels on the bowl, and the shank is on the beefy side as well. I' haven't done any research other than the family story that came to me by e-mail from the orignal owner. I've just always called a Terry Mincer pot. I've got 2 (or maybe 3) Custom-Bilts. Inherited them. One belonged to my grandfather. And the other(s) belonged to my father-in-law. One is damaged at the lip. Going to try black rubberized superglue. Wanted to buy a couple more on eBay, but they are getting pretty high now.

Well what matters is it's a great smoker and many of his stampings were quite faint. Could have easily gotten buffed right off as a heavy-handed estate pipe cleanup. Other than I think Marxman (?) not many out there were directly copying Mincer/Custombilt styling so I'd be willing to bet it is one, or a close second along the line. I would still assume it to be a Custombilt pot.

While the missus and I were visiting Dad, then to dinner and some unnecessary shopping, I had Three Friars and Big'n'Burley in a MM Diplomat. At home now, with Haunted Bookshop in the mossy cob.

Just scraped a couple grams worth of cake out of my current Mark Twain cob and now smoking some Pegasus in it. The chamber walls in my Mark Twain cob stealthily narrow for a few weeks before I realize there's over 1/4 inch of cake again. A satisfying ritual, especially once you've scraped it all out and have a black "new" chamber of full size once again. Repeat every few weeks.

Finishing Old Black Magic in my Old Dominion Stack billiard, with coffee on the side. This is one complex aromatic, if you can call it an aromatic. A review of this blend is above my pay grade, but I get flavors of burnt brownies, earth, dark fruit, spice and a hint of vinegar. It's different, in a good way.
