Peterson 3P's in a green, rusticated bent Dublin. First pipe I carved. Must've been around this time of year, given the color. Silly looking.

2015 Shandygaff in a Dr Grabow Viking.
Sutliff VA Perique in a Mark Twain cob.
Was out trail hiking today for nearly five hours and brought along G.L. Pease Windjammer and a Falcon but I never stopped to have a smoke the entire time. Never stopped to read my book, either.

Thoughts on Shandygaff? I've heard it described as "oddly salty." Been curious about that one , too. Ginger and salt. Hmm... I can imagine a ginger-infused smoke, I think. Salty smoke is a bit of a puzzler for me. Just thinking about something like smoking a salty meat for dinner, I can't really remember that ever smelling salty, so I'm a bit perplexed by the idea of smoke that tastes salty.

Pease Windjammer and a Falcon but I never stopped to have a smoke the entire time. Never stopped to read my book, either. Thoughts on Shandygaff? I've heard it described as "oddly salty." First think a C&D burley-forward mixture. Then consider that it's just burley, Oriental, and Perique. There is no Virginia in the mix. I like it quite a bit but it can be a strong mixture profile for most. Silver will love it for sure, without a doubt. It's like Big 'n' Burley or Riverboat Gambler but more mild in nicotine than those two. Some have said it's cased with ginger, or that it's salty but I only find that it's a natural flavor combination coming from the odd mixture of these three varietals. At times and more when it's fresh, I've noticed what is reportedly a faint ginger but so faint that you can't really tell if the Oriental leaf and perique are just playing tricks on you. Edited to add: And yes, it's very easy to distinguish it as being "salty and savory" in a sense, this is what smoking Oriental and Perique together taste like. Add the burley and it's really more of a rich, potent, savory flavor but the saltiness is prevalent in a sense of those natural tobacco flavors melding. It doesn't taste like salt is added to it in my opinion.

In from full walks, no-band 5x50 for company. After the Ed is fed, Apertif in Caminetto "Business" full bent & continue with the papers. Much continues to get done after her sons get here. Happy TGIF to those affected.

Newminster 701 Virginia in a Legend. I'll have to dip into my Shandygaff later. I don't get the ginger, but it is savory and goes well with ginger beer.
