Thanks, Monty. Not exactly the shape I drew in my sketch pad. As I was working on the stummel, it just wasn't looking right at the heel. So, here we are. I dunno what you drew up, but it turned out nice, as is.

I decided to take one of my early pipes, a kit block of pear, and give it a new look. I found the original kind of boring, and never felt compelled to smoke it. I decided on an overall rustication and darker stain. I might want to smoke it now. The original (yawn): And now:

I have to be honest. It took me a while to appreciate them. I think they are a great, vibrant interpretation of a very classic (for some people, boring) shape. And, thank you, Ron.

Yeah, the grain's nice. Used a block of plateaux for this pipe, hoping for some nice straight or flame grain. I saved the plateaux pieces when I sawed the block up. Might find a use for it.

Yep, I was thinking the same thing...a Silver 55, it sounds like a hot-rod from the old days!

It could just be the Covid talking, but this shape of pipe always made me think that they were the ideal shape to thwack someone on the head with great work!

The stain color and stem color are a great combination. Achieving a “not just another pipe” look without getting cheesy is a mark of true skill and artistry.
