I have several excellent spot-rusticated pipes. I wish I could have bought one of the Butz Choquin pipes with the brass inlays. Nevermind my sandpit, what the heck did you do to your avatar? I fixed it. Something that everyone can get behind! 😁

I like the pipe. Great color and shape. The patch almost looks like a little lipstick print, like the tobacco fairy kissed your pipe.

Although, I'm not sure I'd tell too many people. To tell the truth, I'll probably let this one stay this way, at least for a while. I have plenty of other pipes that I can revisit.

Pipe #35, the one with the sandpit. I considered spot-rusticating, totally rusticating, even a kintsugi-type of fill. That's a mixture of powdered metal (copper/brass/silver/gold) with epoxy or CA glue used to fill the void. I learned about pottery being treated this way to repair and celebrate the imperfection of the material. I really should have done that. Instead, I decided on a more mundane type of fill - briar dust and CA glue. I didn't know that the glue partially affects the wood and inhibits absorption of the stain. Anyway, the result is pretty obvious. If I can't live with it, I'll go back and do something different. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with how the pipe looks. Thanks for looking! It kinda looks like an eye, which makes it sort of thematic with all that bird's-eye everywhere else. It'd be a shame to rusticate all that. Sandblast, though, that might be pretty sweet.

Pipe #36. Back to the Dublin shape again. This time I wanted to experiment with a new style of rustication, one that would be kind of intricate, but not as crunchy as some of my recent rustications. Something with a little bit of a sandblast vibe (I know, I gotta buy a sandblasting cabinet). I think I'll be getting a different stem for this pipe, probably black or a red amber in a similar style and about 3/4" shorter. Either way, I'll also have to sand down the hump near the bend. This one was fun to do, trying new stuff. Thanks for looking! Note: I did go back and touch up the areas that didn't get carnauba wax. No more dull spots! That is really different from your other rustication. That second closeup, in particular, reminds me strongly of something. It hasn't come to me what it is, yet.
