Up to $8.00 a gallon in LA today. š I just saw that California gas stations are reprogramming their pumps to remove the tenths of a cent from the display. This will allow them to go over $10 a gallon. Most pumps can also measure litres, so they can now go up to $99.99/litre.

Sitting out on the deck enjoying a smoke and coffee. Listening to the hum of weed eaters as they chew up the dying grass on my property. There's a couple of guys cutting away in advance of fire season. We have to have all low growth cut by mid June. A fire prevention measure. I've also been removing dead trees and shrubs. Interestingly, the only growth that seems to know how to survive drought is the indigenous growth. Plants and trees not indigenous to the area are the first to take the hit. Interestingly oaks never seem to die. They just grow old and become local folktales.

My oldest daughter and her family live in an area prone to droughts and wildfires, so I can sympathize with the need for your preparations. Indigenous plants are indigenous for a reason. We're all paying a price, some of us sooner and heavier than others, for having slighted the natural world and its ways for so long.

It's a full time job to keep the yard clear. Putting up a shade sail over the front of the barn. I should have done it last month.

My neighbor tells me he shot and killed three beavers yesterday up at the big pond. .222 with a scope. Two sank to the bottom and one died hauling out on a log.
Mixed feelings about that.

We may have the highest gas prices in the country, but they're not at 8 dollars yet. Only 6.20. But these days I'm glad I live in California. No need to go into explanations.

It rained this morning, which has helped cool it down a bit. Doing some riding this morning, then a couple more classes this afternoon.

Itās awful to live here. The weather is murderous, both heat and cold. The people are rude and voracious. The cost of living is sky high. Constant violence from a very high proportion of psychopaths, rapists, and home-invaders. Just awful. Please stay away, for your own good. Youāve been warned.

All my sympathy Bob. Yrs back knew a family from your area, none of those problems, kept rabid badgers as pets. Finally had to move, the damn things would die on their own, couldn't stay alive long enuf to do their jobs (sigh)
Ed "city boy" Duncan, Batavia NY nuisance here, seasonal, major truck route to our Thruway. Pancaked polecats from big rigs...them thangs very slow-moving

Certainly every time I shot at them over the years they immediately dove.

As a type I am not excessively fond of engineers. Unless they are beavers. I was not joyful at their demise but we do have a population issue; e.g. too many beavers in too small a creek. They can only expand in one direction- downstream, because there is a large concrete dam above their home pond.

I believe that shooting any kind of animal that doesn't feed youur family is a complete piece of shite and deserves to be run over by an 18 wheeler. Hunters that kill even though they can afford to go to thee grocery stroe are also cocksuckers of the worst kind. Animals are precious and who are we that we have the right to kill them just for sport. Yeah I grew up in Boston but that shouldn't matter. killing animals for shits and giggles are total scum in my book. If I have offended anyone with my post, good, only assholes kill animals for fun.

Harris I feel what you feel, came back from S Asia didnt pick up a weapon till my son was 5, figured I owed him what I was taught, thereās killing and thereās killing, maybe in that area there is no resourse to move them, People that live in cities donāt understand what you have to do in the country, never see a bouchire, how you think chickens S and pork chops, ribeyes wind up in Albertsons coolers. Not Criticizing you Harris, I feel your pain, , I really do.

What pain? Harris has been shot by a hunter? I feed my family with a rifle when it comes to meat. I donāt call non- or even anti-hunters by foul names. But if you need to express your purity and your good-guy-ness with low-brow language, go right ahead

don't enter this thread all that often, never owned gun, never cowboys & indians in the day (or after 911 was cowboys & muslims as was mentioned). no hunt/fish. Raised in suburb of Rochester, NY. Can appreciate both sides of this issue. Still no pity if can smell results of a polecat flattened by a semi in front of my house during "season"!
Otherwise, mr. neutral Ed

I can relate to that feeling. Senseless killing or even trophy hunting is sinful to me. On this case, the beaver population has exceeded the carrying capacity of this creek and placed homes and farm in jeopardy. Wildlife needs some management in the area of human/wildlife interaction. This particular hunter did us a favor. He is better equipped than I am for this task. To be clear, beavers in the Rocky Mountains are not scarce or rare, neither are they something to waste.
