Howdy folks, I decided to join up here after receiving a recommendation from JimInks. I started smoking cigars and pipes back in the early 80's when I was in the Navy. Over the years it seems that I migrated more to the cigars and only took the Nording down off the shelf 2 or 3 times a year. Can't say what prompted it but I've gotten into pipes in a pretty big way, for me at least. Back in Sep. of last year I only had the one Nording Freehand Signature. Today I've got 30 or so briars in the stable and 3 or 5 MM cobs. Started out watching various youtube videos on restoring and repairing estate pipes and have become quite addicted. Looking forward to getting to know folks here and learning more about various pipes and tobaccos. Dino

Be careful with that cat, if he ever volunteers to house sit...I had a 25 year cellar, after my three day trip all I had was empty tins!
But on the bright side, he said that you can comp all the forum members a round of golf at pinehurst...so I am down for it.
Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the warm welcome gang.
Being a relative noob to site, I'll prolly need to study up a bit on postin pics of the briars.
Any shortcuts or hacks are welcome.
Just finished bringing a really grungy rusticated bent bulldog back to life this evening. Gave it to my son, he's my pipe smokin pal. We're both Bent Bulldog fans. He fell in love with this pipe when I got it in the mail last week. He was definitely stoked when I gave it to him this evening.
I'll dig through some pics and see how well I do at posting em.

Unfortunately, only in my dreams. Always loved flying and could live in an airport. I've done quite a bit of business travel though, so lots of MD-80s and regional jets. My best friend's dad is rich though, and has always had a stable, and I used to fly those for business when I worked for them. We specifically requested the V-Tail once, just to fly in a smaller piston single. Other times it was the Baron twin, an MU-2 before folks figured out not to dump the flaps if you lose power on T/O, not sure what else. I did get to fly in the Citation once though. Tim was like, hey cool, maybe that's my dad's new jet! When I expressed surprise, he replied, oh come on Dave, it's not a Lear Jet or nuthin', it's like the cheapest jet you can get. Yeah, screw you, rich boy After we landed and walked to the FBO, we would always wait to watch the plane take off back to Dallas. When we flew the Citation, it was already gone! Tim's dad had two JetRangers for a while, but I never got to fly in one. The only flying I get now is pretend. I have almost 2,000 hours in Flight Simulator X, in 93 different aircraft and helos of varying quality. You actually learn quite a lot, but if I ever get the money for flight lessons, the IP is going to have to cover up the gauges so I don't look at them so much. You said 'had'; not even a 150 or Tomahawk now? I want a '64-'67 Cherokee 180. Currently going for $36-40 plus, and if you wait for a deal, can get an IFR one with a GPS and low times. Around 4kts slower than a comparable '77 or so 172, but much bigger payload. My pretend 65 can carry 762lbs with full tanks, making it truly a 4-person with luggage, and about a third the price of that 172. Of course, I'd settle for a $12,000 Tri-Pacer with missing logs if that's all I could afford!

Dino, the pipe with the swivel cap looks very cool. Who made that? Thanks John, I saw it on ebay last year and had to have it. It was grunged up beyond belief. The cap would barely swivel and cake built up on the underside of the lid was only surpassed by the cake in the bowl. I easily have over 20 hours of cleaning, sanitizing and reincarnating this little smoker. As to who makes it? My pipe has the stampings "Sparkproof Windless Weatherproof" on one side and "Algerian Briar Made in France" on the other. There is also an "S" on the left side of the stem. Some googlefu will also produce "Mastercraft Weatherproof Sparkproof" pipes that look exactly like mine with the exception of having "MC) on the left side of the stem. From what I can gather, it was designed for horse back riders, hunters, golfers and open top automobilers. I've also seen pics of a full bend model. Would love to get my hands on one... Love bent pipes. Here's a couple more pics... [img src="i1076.photobucket.com/albums/w457/bonanzadriver1/image_zpsego8nlt5.jpeg" style="max-width:100%;"] I've got it sitting with my first Dunhill, an 84 Bruyere Canadian, and my first Peterson, a large Straight Billiard with a P-lip saddle bit.

Of course, I'd settle for a $12,000 Tri-Pacer with missing logs if that's all I could afford! David, I used to work for a consulting company and had a territory up and down the Eastern Seaboard. It got to where I was spending more time driving to and from and sitting in airports than I was in my accounts, once you considered layovers and delays etc... The V-tail changed all of that. What used to take 8 to 10 hours of total travel time could be accomplished in 3 or 4. It was a time machine. I left that company in 2011, kept the Bonanza for a couple of years and finally had to sell her (my daughter named her Vickie the V-tail). Just couldn't justify the expense with kids in and headin to college. I truly miss her and will have another one, once I get em all through school. As for you my friend. I've got several buds that are Bo Bro's. (Bonanza Brothers) that live in and around the Dallas area. I'm sure that any one of them would gladly take ya up on an orientation (recruitment) flight. There are some incredible deals out there right now and probably more than one or two folks that would partner up with you in an Aluminum Mistress.

Ha, you guys sound as loyal as the 337 or Ercoupe guys I'm currently not employed and broke, so let me get earning so I can afford the damn hamburger, and I'd definitely love to go up in a V-tail; it's been about six years since I flew, and that was commercial. I know all the hamburgers within 100nm of here from Flight Simulator Here's a current $90K V-tail you may have seen: a '64 S35, TT5890, 902 SMOH, Garmin GNS 530, Garmin 796 with XM weather, and NAV/COM coupled to the AP. Don't neglect looking at a 64-67 Cherokee 180 for $36K, with a moving map GPS and two-axis AP. Here's the $90K '64, in Destin FL. Good lookin' mistress.

Hubby was in the Marines from '85 to '89, Admin Clerk. He was then in the Army Reserves as a drill sergeant and now in the WV Guard as a Combat Engineer.
