Purchased a late Birthday gift for myself......it’s what I can afford right now and should be a great smoker 👍👍 Not a cupcake or cookie from a family member......isn’t that grand!!! A MM Custom General Pipe with a hardwood shank and a nice looking bent stem. The best part.....only cost $17.35 delivered to my daughter’s. Can’t beat that with a wooden stick.....lol. Should arrive by Friday 👍

just ordered SG 1792 from Iwan Ries for the January BOM. Picked up a tin of Elegant Emu, which is evidently a discontinued blend. Sounded interesting.

C&D bulk tobacco’s are spot on when compared to their tin version. I can’t make that statement for other manufacturers. Next time try an ounce or two in bulk. C&D Bayou Night and BOTH Billy Budd tobacco’s in bulk are outstanding 👍👍👍

I usually buy C&D blends by bulk, but in this case I was taking advantage of the savings of buying their "Battle of the Blends" offering in order to rack up 14 tins for about what I would have paid for ten tins. Instead of buying 10 Dark Flake tins, I bought 7 of the "Staggered" Battle of the Blends offerings and got 14 tins (7 of Dark Flake and 7 of Bayou Morning).

"Battle of the Blends " I did the same thing with the Plum Pudding and the Bengal Slices...both great smokes IMO. SToP in my estimation, has got some real winners. Appreciate them bringing back some old favorites. I try to support them, cause they are a small operation and USA. To me they are my "B&M". Thank you John.

I 2nd what Ted said about C&D's bulk. It makes up most of my cellar.
I did the same with Plum Pudding and Bengal slices months ago, it was before my "last straw" with "them." I'm yet to smoke the plum pudding. Thinking about it, I have a lot of tobacco I havent even tried yet.
I do have a couple fist fulls of cigars in the mail. I really enjoyed the AF 858 Maduro, but instead of ordering a few of those, I grabbed a couple of "sampler packs."
Saving for a box of 858 maduros

I got lucky on eBay with a Wilke. This one is plainly a 1970s item, done by the Wilke sisters. This is quite atypical for them. A freehand, a cherrywood shape, and a hand cut stem -- never seen any of those on a Wilke.
The grain is outstanding, particularly for a Wilke, since they weren't grain-obsessed pipe makers. Lovely straight grain covering 350 degrees of the stummel. Only a flaw on the front of the bowl, above the shank, impedes perfect grain from marching all the way around.
As is typical for Wilke, there's no stain to speak of. Just the natural color of the briar under wax.
Whoever owned it first smoked the hell out of it, so there's some charring in the bowl. I think it will survive, though. I sure hope it does.

Very nice pipe indeed, enjoy for many years. If what’s inside the chamber is actually charred and not cake, put a thin coat of pipe mud on the walls of the chamber. This will help create an even cake after a few bowls. Worked every time for me....good luck.

I'm going to try and make myself a batch of pipe mud, I guess.

The pipe mud did the trick plus I built up the heel of the chamber. The pipe is still one of my top 20 favorite Pipes to smoke. Let the pipe mud cure for a full 48 hours then smoke as a new pipe so a cake builds up slowly. Have fun👍👍
