Overall, in contrast to "subtle hints" of this and that, I much prefer BOLD presentations of this and that, of which over time cellared, mellow a tad bit and bloom in flavor. That's just me.

I probably won’t be buying any, every year I buy 10 tins or so to put up, so I am more than good. But if you don’t have any cellared and like red Va’s, it is a great one to acquire.

I bought a couple tins of this last time it came around. I was not impressed at all. Like so many C&D blends, it could only benefit from some aging. |

I agree, putting away for a few years is key.
The 2016 CRF has benefitted dramatically with age.
That was the year that they had the recall on all 2400 tins, I kept all of mine, and (knock on wood) have yet to ever run across a moldy tobacco.

Kept all mine, and the 2016 Carolina Red Flake was the best red Virginia flake on the market. This release comes at a poor timing for me. Like Charlie, I got a stack of the original release, I got a couple of them from the 2020 release it was I believe, and I got 15 tins of the last release of CRF with perique. I might not get this one, though I'd love to get at least a few of them.

The video Charlie posted reminded me, it's the same red tips grade from 2020 they had in the last CRF with Perique batch, and the Anthology that recently released. I was going to give Anthology at least a few more months before I try one, and I polished off one tin of the CRF w/ Perique fresh.

I have about 9 tins of this left from the last drop and I am not impressed. I may unload them down the road but we'll see.

But I am guessing I will like the red flake more that the w/Perique in a few years of age. |

I was staying up thinking this released at midnight, but the distro says it releases tomorrow (Sept 7th) at 6pm EST. That's the first time a small batch release has done that.

Besides not being able to deal with volume, they have horribly outdated software;e.g-last year's ridiculous 'double sell' issues with the 2021 POTY that recurred for the 2022 release. But everything sells eventually, so why change anything? |

I might not get this one, though I'd love to get at least a few of them. The 2017 and 2018 CRF releases came from the exact same batch of leaf as the original 2016 CRF release. After that they had used all the original leaf and subsequent CRF releases are a high grade red Va leaf but are not that mystical original crop. (Source: in person conversation with Jeremy Reeves.) |
