Well, that sucks. I liked most of his posts. Some people just have to be right all the time. If you express any kind of opinion someone is probably going to disagree with it. You have to roll with these things when it's not a moral principle.

Crazy thread. I have two basic purchasing rules: I don't buy from someone I don't know, and I don't buy on eBay. As a result, I've not been disappointed or felt like I've been cheated.

I bought a lot of pipes on eBay over several years. I was happy with the vast majority of what I got. Now, I pretty much buy from friends who make pipes.😉

thanks. That's a shame. I wish people would get in touch with one of the mods before deleting their account. Maybe we can help disuse a situation.

Some people are hypersensitive. I’ve had one instance where I left a forum but it was more about the overall vibe of the place versus someone voicing a different opinion than me. Can’t make everyone happy and I’m not one to try anyway. I liked his posts but hey, stuff happens.

I am sure he had his reasons and no one can truly have a complete understanding of what is happening in another man’s life. I would welcome him back if he decides to rejoin.

I have watched shill bidding for over a decade on Ebay. The most obvious is treasurepipes. Coopersark was another but he is no longer on ebay due to health reasons. I have bought countless pipes from Pipestud and never once saw a shill on anything I was bidding on. I know Steve forr over 20 years and he would never condone shilling on his auctions. If he suspects the owner of the pipe is trying to jack the price he will pull the auction.
I don't know who the others are now as I stopped looking years ago. I bid a day or 2 early on something I like and let it ride. I never try to snipe and I have gotten some great deals over the years. The shills were obvious when I was paying attention so they were easily avoidable. Anyone who sees a pipe they like should just put in their top number and let it ride. Getting into bidding wars is when the shills are the worst. Most times it is high line pipes getting shilled not 100.00 Savinelli's. My latest purchase was a brand new Brandon Brooks Dublin I got for 140.00 from deadmanspipes. No shills on that one. I recently lost a pipe I really wanted as it was a birth year Dunhill in my favorite shape. I put in my high bid and someone sniped it at the end which was fine. I never break my rule of getting into bidding wars.

I like sniping, as I can post the highest number I am willing to pay without auction babysitting… and by bid isn’t hanging out there to lose to a bidder for a buck more unless they are babysitters.
