Edit: Checked out the faint nomenclature with a magnifying glass, looks like it's from 1953. The joys of faint nomenclature. My 1955 Root Briar group 1 Apple was listed by the seller as a 1965. The difference is 1965 is a full size 5 and 1955 is an underlined raised 5. The stamping was week on the pipe. I was bidding for it for size, shape, and grain and someone was competing against me. If they were competing thinking they were bidding for a 65 birth year, I saved them from a big disappointment. The nomenclature was over buffered but by shining a bright light straight across the side of the shank and taking a picture, I was able to create just enough of shadow in the stamping to clearly see that it is an underlined raised 5. Almost impossible to tell with the Mark 1 eye ball.

My others are from the 70's, not overbuffed, and more straight-forward date codes.

I've got three Made in London sandblasted pipes (billiard, Zulu and bent Dublin) that literally came out of a basket next to the cash register at a local tobacconist 30+ years ago. I wonder which factory they came from.

My oldest is a 55 and 54 was last patent year.

The Zulu and billiard are pretty standard looking. The Dublin (or whatever it is), though, may indicate a specific maker.

For the heck of it, while in food loin They had a couple of Half and Half for sale. I bought one, and tried it out. It smelt good, and it smoked fine and had some tast. But not enough to make it my go to tobacco.

Good morning, Been slacking lately but up and out to work early all week. Trying out some Chocolate covered Cherry in a bent Grabow Duke billiard. It's a 50/50 blend of Sutliff Dark Chocolate and wild cherry. So far not bad and Kim isn't complaining about the room note.

Sutliff Virginia Slice in a straight Falcon Algiers. A can of cherry cola to get my brain out of first gear. Then I'll make lunch and plan dinner around a Bruins matinee.
