My niece and I trapped a feral cat around 58. I was 7 and she was 8. We caught it in a box trap that we were trying to trap a bird. She went to get it out and it bit and clawed her badly. She had to get the shots in her stomach. I think I cried, but I know that she did. Feral cats, especially toms, are bad dudes. IMO worse than bobcats b/c they savvy humans better (or worse). Big mean ferals can really disrupt a neighborhood. Dang it! We forgot to check the sex of the cat what with all the screaming and bleeding and all! 😁

Years ago, I hit one with my truck at night. I stopped to see and it had gone into the trees. I followed in and looked for my dog. She was waiting patiently by the truck. Then it occured to me; it is night, I am in the woods with an injured bobcat. This is not going to turn out well. So, I got back to the truck and left the scene. As Fredo Corelone once remarked to his brother, "I'm smaaart". Is he related to Clifton Clower of Wolverton Mountain?

Mom went into sepsis for a while, which is not good. They think they've got it under control now, though. They're trying her on oral antibiotics to see if she'll be able to go home tomorrow. If they upset her stomach too much, she'll have to go back on IV.
Thanks for all the good thoughts.

checking in and showing off my new head gear. I have always loved berets. I had about 4 or 5 in college, in colors that would match just about any outfit. Cute. I'm assuming that it's your work? actually, no, I bought it this way. It's the easy way out, lol

They shouldn't be too far off, now, John.
Mom was discharged from the hospital, today. Doc told her they got the sepsis killed off and her white blood cell count is back to normal. She seems to be tolerating the oral antibiotics okay. Thanks again for all the good thoughts.

Spent all day wondering if I really need a water softener and whether I really want to spend 2000 dollars on improving water quality in my home. I just can't believe there isn't a cheaper solution.

Spent all day wondering if I really need a water softener and whether I really want to spend 2000 dollars on improving water quality in my home. I just can't believe there isn't a cheaper solution. I guess it depends on your water. When I was in MC/DF, we had drinking water delivered. Shower and washing was tap water. What is wrong with the water that you are trying to fix. If it's just hard, can you live with it? We have hard water with a LOT of iron. We have a 5 stage water filter from Amazon for our drinking water that removes most contaminants and iron. It's supposed to last 5 years and then you replace it. Reverse osmosis is the best and cheaper in the long run.

Up at 0200. Snowing again. Not unusual for us to have snow on Memorial Day. We need the precip in the watershed so I will grin and carry on.

In the quest to gain ignition on my Ford/Navistar 7.3 liter diesel, I ordered a replacement engine block heater. However, to complete installation of these, the engine should run to complete warm up before plugging in the heater. This is to eliminate any air bubbles in the coolant system causing the new heater to burn out. Since the truck has not started in weeks now, that is not possible without taking other actions first. After consultation with diesel engine mechanics in The Great White North, Saskatchewan in this case, steps should be taken to accomplish cold start in Winter. Much of this is just obvious to those with working brains, eh?
Improvised Thermal Start for Ford 7.3 Liter Diesel Engine:
1. Place heater under oil pan. Use magnetic heater or 500 watt work light for 20 to 30 minutes. Block all sides of truck to break the wind. LOL!
2. Heating pad on top of fuel heater. Close hood. This will also warm batteries.
3. Remove air filter from housing and insert hair blow dryer. Seal opening with rags. Run for 20 minutes. Heat manifold.
4. Place 500 watt work light under fuel tank. The steel skid plate will heat and conduct to the plastic fuel tank. Watch the temperature, bub!

That's a lot of improvised heating. The truck has sant in single digit cold for weeks without running. It is frozen as can be. This engine does not tolerate cold at all. Needs a heated garage for parking during winter. Lacking that, it seems this protocal is indicated, eh? The consequences of over working the engine in starting are so costly in comparison to the effort described, well, you can imagine.
