Cereal. Post honey comb as I don’t feel like cooking it’s been a long day. Simplicity has it's place. The hotel this morning had the full breakfast offerings, but the shredded wheat biscuits called me in.

A Nathan's Famous 1/4 pound all beef wiener in a toasted brioche bun and topped with pico de gallo and mustard. Pico de gallo and mustard just doesn't sound right on a sweet bread like brioche. Humph.

I’ve eaten in a number of CBs, usually by the necessity of travel. I have never found them more than barely adequate. (Runny grits will not get my vote-card.) A mom-and-pop will draw me in way faster. The eggs were tasteless, the biscuits were heavy and the potato casserole was bland. My wife had the grits but only had one bite. More like mush. We're spoiled for grits as we make Lakeside grits weekly. And we remember the long gone Jim Dandy grits. It wasn't a good breakfast, but we were starving. Best breakfast ever is at the Oakridge Smokehouse in Shulenburg Texas. All you can eat pancakes with eggs and waffles cooked to order. The unlimited bacon always crisped to perfection.

The only think I like at Cracker Barrel is the chicken and dumplings and even then it’s been hit and miss. Used to like the country ham but last time it was to salty.

A mom-and-pop will draw me in way faster. I wanted to eat at the Waffle House, but the wife vetoed it. She wished we had afterwards. The Waffle House by the doctors office is always great. I love to sit at the counter and watch the professional short order cook. The closest mom and pop breakfast place to the house is about 16 miles away and it's not better than the Waffle House. There's a place that gets rave reviews about 26 miles away, but that's too far to drive just for breakfast. The best place in town is Sonic. I love their SuperSonic Breakfast Burrito.

Every Wednesday is family dinner night with the in-laws. The person who buys chooses the restaurant. Tonight was Thai, my wife’s choice. A couple of curry dishes, Pad Thai, lettuce wraps and a few Singh Ha’s to wash it down. 🤗👍 That is a nice tradition. Singha is a good lager as is Chang and Lucky Buddha. Besides Singha, Archa is a nice lager too. Personally, I’ll go with Tiger, King Fisher or Sapporo as far as Asian imports are concerned.

Thanks for the validation..."you are not a nutcase cracker barrel hater" The name of CB sounds homey, I have tried to like it, but have always been disappointed. I prefer Denny's but we do not have one of those either, lol!.

Humph. These brioche buns are not sweet. They have rich dough without sugar and a glaze. Greatly improved over the disintegrating hot dog buns usually available.

We've been buying small sub rolls or bolitas for our hot dogs, as the hot dog buns don't hold all the required crap, er toppings that we like.

Lunch was mixed green salad... "they" say I have to eat one some time, sigh. Four oven fried chicken wings from days ago reheated in the air fryer and quite tasty they were. I like salads but seldom make them as they are too much work for me. How I wish there was a place with a salad bar as I remember them in the 1970s. Nope. No salad bars and NO buffets in Taos. I do not believe there are any in the state, lol!

The dog woke me at 0330. Since I skipped Supper the night before I was a mite peckish. A 1/4 Nathan's Famous All Beef Dog in a bun with mustard was called for. So, just coffee this morning.

Smoked, crispy pork ribs and potato salad. Beer on the side.
"a typical Central Texas barbecue menu looks like this: meats sold by the pound, starting with the holy trinity of brisket, sausage, and ribs, smoked with post oak. There might also be turkey or chicken. Pickles, onions, and white bread, if you like. Sides include potato salad, beans, coleslaw, maybe macaroni and cheese or some kind of casserole. Dessert is banana pudding or fruit cobbler. You might drink iced tea, you might drink beer, you might drink sodas like Big Red or Dr. Pepper."

Okay... another solo dinner while my wife's in the hospital. I've been trying to keep it simple, but I can't eat junk. Hmmmm... there's some defrosted boneless pork strips in the fridge, so I'll cut them up, brown them, add a splash of chicken stock, sprinkle on some granulated garlic, spread on BBQ sauce, cover, and cook. Peas on the side for a veggie. Yum!
