Any chewers here?
I recently was gifted a plug of Days O Work made by Pinkerton tobacco company, also bought some Red Man and Red man golden blend,
The days O work was like a soft brownie, with a heady molasses taste, very good but hard to get...I picked up some at the TeePee trading post on the Navajo nation.
Red man in both varieties is also pretty good, I cannot nail down the flavor profile, but it is pretty tasty and an option at work since smoking is not allowed in the company trucks.
Red man has been kicked to the curb for the sake of political correctness, the recipe is the same, but it is now called America's best.
My local Albertson's has a case of each red man that i am going to pick up, when the marketing people visit the store the Red Man goes away to make room for Americas best...good to have a vacuum sealer.

I may or may not have chewed a quantity of Red Man, along with others, back in the day while playing baseball. Enjoy it while you can...

Many years ago there was a plug chewing tobacco that I really liked, I can’t remember the brand though, but I have tried many times. It didn’t have any particular flavoring, mostly just tobacco. Day’s Work was also a favorite. When it comes to loose chew like Red Man (which I will note I am a quarter Blackfeet and have no issues with such product names, PC is a cancer) I much preferred Beechnut wintergreen. I went through more than a few cans of Hawken too back when it came out. I still think about picking some up for nostalgia’s sake.

Levi Garrett is the only one I’ve had experience with. I remember it being sweet tasting. Sorry I really don’t have much to add as it was a long time ago I tried it.

When I was younger I made my way through about every pouch of chew. Nothing beats the raisiny goodness of Redman Original. It's been years, but I remember the flavor well.

I've got a line on Days Work. It is not that same as the original Red Man Plug. Days Work isn't quite and sweet and has a stronger molasses taste. I have about a dozen bags of original Red Man vacuum sealed. I picked up a couple bags of Bowie loose leaf chew yesterday from the Res. They have a special two packs for $6. In my opinion its not as good as Red Man but wasn't bad especially for the price.

I've surprisingly never tried Red Man or other loose leaf chews, but I have had Day's O Work and found it very sweet with no nicotine, like an aromatic. I ended up chewing up the whole plug looking for nicotine in an hour or two and never went back to it again. (Pinkerton also make "Apple Sun Cured" which is the same form factor and style plug as the Days O Work) I stick with Copenhagen/Grizzly/Kodiak or Swedish snus types, General's/Siberia/Oden's these days. I do want to try Red Man's (Or whatever it is now) now that you mention it but does it have any nicotine to it? Almost forgot, I also chew Gawith twist like Happy Brown Bogie or Rum Twist from time to time.

It was less than a dollar a pouch down here, 20+ years ago.

I have had people suggest trying Brown Bogie as a chew, I love it as a smoke. Chewing it however, results in a hasty expulsion, my tastebuds die a little the two times I tried.

I like Brown Bogie as a chew. Although, I don't really chew it, it kind of sits there and gets jabbed with my tongue once in a while. I also only cut off a chunk a little thicker than a quarter.
I've also "chewed" stranded straight perique. It wasn't bad, but I've only did that ONE time.

I chewed some of the Stoker’s leaf for a while. Tasty flavorings but the leaf wouldn’t hold up for long. Redman classic or AB as it will sadly now be labeled is what I buy a few times a year. I only partake while fishing, bird hunting or rockhounding. So about 4-5 trips a year and maybe 7-8 days a few times a day. Anything I bring home gets used up when I am mowing or gardening. I love the flavor and nicotine level of standard Redman.

One thing about days o work...Spartacus gave me a plug that was very pliable like if you bent a fig newton cookie...Good
I bought three plugs on the res that had less "give"...a noticeable loss in taste, still good but not as good.
I saw a YT reviewer that had one that was hard as a rock, and he ranted about how much is sucked...well hell, he probably bought a dusty plug with years of age on it.
Moral of the story, go with the first option, time is not a friend to this aged plug...maybe so if it was vacucum sealed when fresh, but the wrapper they come in is similar to individual saltines you get at a restaurant.

Rum Twist is also my go to chew when I do chew a slice or two of twist. Like Josh said, I'll pack it in my cheek more like dip and not actually chew on it.

Rum Twist taste better in the lip than it does in the pipe. The coconut one is intriguing, but I always miss it.
I almost bought a pouch of "America's Best" on my way home today... all because of this thread...

“ I'll pack it in my cheek more like dip and not actually chew on it.”
That is how I roll.
My Uncle Mark back in the 60’s would borrow our car a 65 Chevy Biscayne with a white roof. Each dip was a half bag of chew and when he went down the road, you learned to keep the back windows rolled up. I swear he invented Rhino linings, but us kids were tasked with cleaning it up after it was baked on.
Otherwise, he was one of my coolest uncles, but man… the guy chewed like he had a cud.

I tried it for a short while years ago in my early 20's. Mainly Levi Garret. I really enjoyed the flavor, but I was raised not to spit in public, so it made chewing around people awkward.

I have a lot of solitary time on long drives, so a bit different.
I get it though, hard to be around people, and converse without looking like a human sized tobacco spittin grasshopper.

My thoughts also...my one try at chewing was ay age 13 or 14, with a blond-colored plug of Beechnut. I got the plug at the drugstore, while Ma and Pop were in the Safeway. I ducked down behind Pops pickup , and bit of a corner, and after chomping for a while I swallowed, and the juice set the young tummy on fire... Not knowing any better I ran to the drink machine and tossed a diet cola down the hatch and as soon as it mixed with the tobacco juice, I blew lunch with all my might, and just as hard, threw the remaining plug as far as I could ...much as I love a good smoke, I can't make myself try that again

( He authored books, Little britches, father and I were ranchers, etc.. from the late 1800’s).

I chew Red Man on occasion, used to chew it all the time, also used to chew a plug called Black Maria, sadly it's been out of production for a few years.

Only on occasion but I do enjoy loose leaf chews. I rarely get together with old college friends for a hunting trip and will pick up a pack of Levi Garrett to share. Reading through this thread, I'm interested to try brown boogie and run twist now - both in the pipe and as a chew.

I love it as a smoke, cannot stand it as a chew even in the smallest increments.

Preferred plug to loose when I chewed. Day's Work and Brown Mule. Got the habit working with two old rodeo hands from Oklahoma in 1971. That would be Al G. Little and Jumbo Tucker. Rest in Peace, boys. You earned it.

I was a chewer a long long time ago. I remember being on deployment (Navy) and I had a good hookup on Kodiak. I work in supply, so I was hooked up with the guys on the beach. One of them would have his wife mail a few rolls of Kodiak to him everyday wherever we were in the world. He was the one who loaded up the two daily helicopters to the ship everyday. He marked the box with my name and the term CASREP which essentially meant they were parts for emergency repairs on the ship, so nobody would touch them when they came aboard. He was paying $3 a tin, and I was paying him $5 a tin, and I was selling them for $10 a tin on the ship. For a good period of time we were out of helicopter range and I couldn't receive my daily replenishment of Kodiak. I was so desperate that I purchased a pouch of Beechnut from the geedunk store. At the time it was probably the nastiest thing I'd ever put in my mouth, but over the remainder of deployment it kinda grew on me. I would fall asleep in my rack every night with it in my mouth and wake up with sour stomach and brown spit stains on my pillow. So gross! I don't chew often anymore, but when I do, I go for Beechnut.
