Just thought I would pass along an email from Tobaccopipes.
Dan Tobacco The Mallard Flake Plus Perique Pipe Tobacco $15.09 As a gentle, drinkable Virginia Ready Rubbed Flake, The Mallard has found many friends since its introduction in 2007. Now we have added a good pinch of Perique to the composition from Zambia and Mysore and pressed the whole thing into a flake. RELEASES TONIGHT @ 12AM ET

I think I’m going to pass as I’ve never had the regular mellow mallard. And I got a lot of vapers already stocked in the cellar Sounds good tho.

Yeah the reviews of the original seem to be all over the map.

I’ve smoked Mellow Mallard and I’m pretty sure I have a few tins of it. It’s good, but a bit on the one note side. I could see where some Perique could jazz it up. Course I have Perique also, so I could add some myself to what I have, if I wasn’t always reaching for something else. There seems to be a steady stream of “new” tobaccos, where a company just takes an existing blend, throws some Perique in it and voila, a new release.

I guess the perique crop has been good for Louisiana.

It’s almost like all of the tobacco blenders keep saying “Perique is the bacon of the tobacco world, let’s add some to everything.”

It’s almost like all of the tobacco blenders keep saying “Perique is the bacon of the tobacco world, let’s add some to everything.” It's OK up to like 5% or so.

It’s almost like all of the tobacco blenders keep saying “Perique is the bacon of the tobacco world, let’s add some to everything.” I was thinking more along the lines of perique being very marketable right now.

It’s almost like all of the tobacco blenders keep saying “Perique is the bacon of the tobacco world, let’s add some to everything.” So true! Plus, it seems that tobacco presses are getting absurdly cheap given how many new flakes are coming out.

Ehhh, perique...
Without having tasted the original, I'll pass. Sometimes I think "a little perique could push this to another level," but I've been passing on VaPers lately and reaching for straight VA's. And peanut butter! 🤫
Release some good Red VA blends, without perique, and I'll definitely bite.
I've read elsewhere that the original blend has changed a good bit in the last few years.

Didn't smoke the original and I don't care for VaPer. I can handle a little Perique when combined with other varietals, but not in any concentration. This one's a pass for me. But I'm curious, though, if anyone knows if Perique tobacco is grown anywhere else in the world. Find it highly unlikely that St James Parish is the only place on this planet where Perique can be grown. Perhaps the same tobacco grown under a different name?
