Hello from a windy but sunny Cape Town, South Africa. My first pipe was had in '93 and then finally the cigarettes were thrown out the window in 2000. So I suppose I've been a full-on pipesmoker for 16 years. Been trying to make the perfect pipe in my spare time since 2007. Don't know if I'll ever get to it, but I sure enjoy it! Thanks for the invite, Justin!

Hi, charl. Welcome to the Briar Patch. Jump right in, the water's fine. We look forward to hearing about the South African pipe scene and, as always, pictures tell the story.

Don't let Charl fool you... he is a master craftsman in my opinion. I'm mad at myself for not having had him do a commission for me yet. Look and drool, boys. www.goussardpipes.com/Glad you made it, Charl. Good to have you boet.

Did someoene say Cape? Welcome to the board Charl. What is availability and price like on tobacco's in Capetown like? I recall that in some parts of Africa it is incredibly expensive.

Welcome Charl! Just took a look at your site - awesome pipes, especially the ones with the bamboo shank!

Thank you kindly, gents! Both for the welcome and the compliments! Trailboss, you get local OTC's all over here, but the quality is really really bad. At tobacconists, you can also find brands like Peterson, Amphora, Holland House and Borkum Riff. Most serious smokers from here actually just import from the US. It's hellishly expensive for us, but there is no denying the quality.

Charl! Good to have you here! Guys, this Justin echoes the sentiment of the other Justin - Charl can make a pipe, and a damn fine one at that!

My first Goussard was a gift from Charl. The second I purchased a couple of weeks ago. Both are engineered wonderfully. Beautiful, too. Perhaps Charl will post the link to an article a South African magazine did on him.
