Looks like a nice place to hang your hat, Don! The next few weeks, we are traveling but although I would rather be in a tent 🏕️ n the forest, we will be in hotels. Spoiled wife, happy life.😉

Wife is with me. We both still like to camp. Can’t backpack anymore. Her feet and back would suffer too much. I can still sleep on the ground under the stars with minimal padding. No one I know is willing to do that with me though.

I hear you. I loved my backpacking days in the backcountry, nothing beats the remoteness with the wind whistling in the pines, and hearing deer foraging in the middle of the night.

Sweet camp, Don! Yes, I remember my own solo backpacking adventures. I always used the best gear that I could get and afford to keep me safe and comfortable. I've backpacked in the Nantahala Nation Forest in the mountains of western NC, Pecos Wilderness in NM, and the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains in NY. Good memories from my younger, thinner days.

That looks like a good camp.
I used to backpack, solo, in the southern Cascades of Oregon in the early 1970s. I cannot do that anymore. I hoped to venture forth again with a donkey and panniers but my burro died in 2005.

I hoped to venture forth again with a donkey and panniers but my burro died in 2005. I was in the backcountry of Yosemite, and a guy came along with his Llamas. They had packs on them and he said they were ideal pack animals because they did not like getting their feet wet, and his stuff always stayed dry. Also he said, that they were permitted to go where donkeys were not as the hooves do not damage the trails. He was able to pack some luxuries in the backcountry as a result… things that my back could not bear.

I just wanted to add, that that gentleman said that there was no need to pack food for the Llama’s, they could feast on the local offerings just fine.

That looks nice and tranquil. We have 11 people to show around the north coast this week. It's been crazy busy. I need a break when they leave, but alas, that's not going to happen. I've been told I'll probably have a funeral next week.
Wanna swap, Don?

Lots of elderly family in declining health.😔

Chief Dan George over here. You got the reference! Renaissance man, you! It was fairly apparent. Still, a great line which has become part of us. Right up there with "What we have here is failure to communicate", "I'll be back", among others. Few of us quote Shakespeare, Thomas Mann, or Voltaire, but we do love our movies.

Paddled out to Deer Island in the middle of Lake Granby. A four mile round trip. The lake was pretty calm. There are spots with a bit of chop and some swells, but it was pretty friendly water. Beached on the island, ate some trail mix, drank my hot chai tea I had in the kayak and started a cob of Half and Half. I have not taken my little 10ft Old Town Vapor XT that far before. I had to work to keep up with my kids. They were in our two 14 1/2 ft touring boats and our two 12 1/2ft Old Town Loons.

I will admit that I meant pitch a tent as you did under the trees, however by your response I knew that there was some sort of double meaning/suggestion afoot. But looking at your toes from the kayak, in retrospect, I am glad that you did not lower the camera...what happens in the woods stays in the woods. www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pitch%20a%20tentDirty Don!

Took some pictures last night just before we got hit with this violent thunderstorm. Very high wind and heavy rain for about the first 15 minutes, then just steady rain for a couple of hours. Tent held up.

Tonight’s reward after weathering another thunderstorm that started with downdraft wind flying off the lake and hammering our tent. She held up to another battering. Our dining table screen house would have blown away if I had remained in the tent for another minute. I re-staked a corner, tied off to a tree instead of a guy-line to a tent stake for the anchor. I had to hang on, even at that to keep it from taking off. It was pretty impressive wind. And, it was highest on the back end of the storm.
