On this date in 1900, railroad engineer Casey Jones died in a train collision, one hand on the brake and one hand on his screaming whistle. 83 degrees and 74% humidity in NE Texas today. Just taking it easy today after spending all day yesterday in the dentist's chair and the bad start today. We had a nasty train wreck at the NM/ Arizona border… a dozen cars with propane and other fuels jumped the track and sparked…one of my colleagues had a paid day to hang at the hotel in Gallup. If it happens at the NM - AZ border, did it really happen?

My credit card was just hacked for $1200. Lowlifes. But rich no doubt. It happens to us about once a year. At least the CC companies are on top of it. The main thing is that they don't get punished, or even pursued very often.

I talked to a customer years ago, he said:
“My wife put the shopping cart at the rear of the car, started unloading the goods…, out of nowhere a car sped up and the passenger grabbed the purse, they shopped at Best Buy before she could get the cards frozen… It was like this is their job”
My reply… Bingo! That is their “job”, next time the purse goes in the car first.

Nah. Coalsmoke is cool. Send the squad after the hackers. Got an email from the CC outfit. “Is this yours?” Called them right away. Nope. Not mine. Great service. New card on Thursday. Now to notify everybody else. A hassle, but not a tragedy by any means. What really scares me is identity theft. Even so, having to deal with unauthorized use of your cc is a real PITA especially when the card has to be reissued. After my ordeal with the supermarket cc crook, I had to do the same of changing the cc number of record on all of the websites for my suppliers, utilities, etc. To misquote some Englishman, he who steals my identity steals trash.

When my card number was used by someone working the local supermarket, the unauthorized charges were for phone cards. Stupid.

I would be satisfied if intelligent people would rise up. There are far too many dummies in the world. Too bad that so many of them are affiliated with our colleges and universities.

Happy May Day! Workers of the World Rise Up! 😁 I miss the big parade in Moscow. The long line of marching troops, the hardware display. The Party officials on the balcony. The Russians knew how to put on a spectacle.

Very stirring. But they left out the verse on incompetence and corruption.

Most of the Hostas divided and replanted. Dropped off a few clumps with SIL. Dug out a much hated Yucca plant. Watered the transplants and garden boxes. I might be done working for the day. Then again...

I seem to be right popular. I've now got wasps building a nest on my front porch and hornets building 2 different nests out back. Darn bumblebees talk too much.
Time to get out the spray.

Yeah, I got no problem with any kind of bee (except killer ones, I guess). I don't even mind wasps so much, as long as they ain't all up in my business (like nesting right outside my front door). But hornets and yellowjackets gotta go.

It's not so painful I want to kill them just for being around the place. They got business to do. But right above my front door is just statistically unacceptable. Nest somewhere else around the house.

We do not have many here. Every so often they build a nest on my eaves. I leave them alone and they do the same.
