Just finished my latest re-read of The Yiddish Policemen's Union. If you like Chandler/Hammett type detective stories, alt history, and wit, I recommend it.

Now reading Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which, so far, is just beautifully written. I’m smitten with Ms. Golightly already.

I’ve forgotten where I left off in the reading thread. I’ve been bogged down in large books for what must have been the past year and I may have left off with having finished Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. I’ve recently read Seveneves by Neal Stephenson, Tolstoy on Shakespeare, and I’m just starting Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson.

Just finished "Death Comes for the Archbishop" by Willa Cather. Fantastic book, and I really enjoyed it. I'm jonesing for some of the New Mexico magic that seems to have gotten into my blood. Locations in the story are places I've either been to our just missed.

"The Lost Tomb" by Douglas Preston I like Douglass Preston. I must have read least 16 of his books. I especially like the ones he writes with Lincoln Child. Have you read the Tyrannosaur Canyon series?

Just finished Double Star by Heinline. Pretty dated in a lot of ways, but still fun and intelligent writing. One particular curiosity was the billboard on Mars for IG Farben. This was written in 1950 and it won him his first Hugo award. He had interstellar travel but no cell phones

Can't say they aren't worth it. I wonder if books will still be valuable in another 20 years when everyone has implanted Apple goggles.

I'm making my way slowly through the Confessions of Saint Augustine. It's amazing how relatable it can be and then also goes way beyond my faculties.

Have you read the Tyrannosaur Canyon series? Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I have not read the Tyrannosaur Canyon series yet. I like pretty much everything that Preston & Child write. I have read all 21 books in the Pendergast series waiting for #22 to come out in August. Read the Nora Kelly series too.

You'll remember her as the archeologist in Relic.

This came in the mail today. Looks like I am about to go on a William Trevor binge..... A word of advice: don't read too much Trevor all at once. He's a terrific writer, but his stories can get brutally depressing after a while.

Welcome back! I've been reading Procopius's The Secret History. Man, if you're ever the emperor of something and want your history written, don't hire this guy.

Well I'm interested...in reading your suggestion of The Secret History...thank you! The Donna Tartt novel of the same name is a much better read.
