After trailboss mentioned earlier that Mac Baren fired Per Jensen, I was wondering about it and I just finished listening to Brian Levine’s radio show (episode 586, Dec. 5) where he interviewed Per Jensen and he talked about it. So I decided to again smoke my Georg Jensen Gigant loaded with Per’s Birds of a Feather Uno. Not actually the best pipe for this cut/blend, but hey.

You had me doing a double-take, Pete. That first Sav you posted always looks like a Stanwell to me.

You had me doing a double-take, Pete. That first Sav you posted always looks like a Stanwell to me. The Nonpareil? I have three. That one's my favorite. I bought it and a matching bent Dublin 35ish years ago at our local Tinder Box. It may have been my first "big-time" pipe acquisition. Tinder Box actually had a lay away program. Took me about a month to pay for them. They cost about 50 bucks a piece, I think. I didn't have a lot of disposable income back in 1986. The horn ferrule and stem may be why you were thinking Stanwell.

That was the year I graduated from h.s. I think I bought a couple of pipes at Tinder Box back in the 1998-2002 range. Don't remember what they were. Gone now, whatever they were.

I just looked at my earnings through Social Security...in 1986 I was 26 and had two kids, 1 income...wonder how we survived! I had a lone small figural meerschaum and bought an ounce of Tinderbox North Sea (Stokkebye Nougat) at a time...regardless...it was good times.

Good Saturday Morning! It's 30°, damp, and with a cloudy sky here at first light. I had a full night's sleep for a change, so I'm up later than usual and feel well rested. This afternoon I have to mail a package for my wife and then stop in a different supermarket to pick up a can of our favorite coffee. Getting the smoking day going with a bowl of Peterson Flake in the Savinelli Venere 128 rusticated billiard and there's a fresh travel mugga coffee tucked underneath my jacket. Have a great weekend everybody!

Good Morning Again! It's still the same weather here, but the sky might clear up a bit in a few hours. Finishing a bowl of Wessex Brown VA Flake in the Sav rusticated billiard while sipping my coffee. As usual, it's time to check the headline news.

I got my favorite Ben Wade, by way of The Tinder Box lay-away plan...around this time of year ,in 82, I went in to make my last payment, and they couldn't find my pipe! Upset would be a vast understatement ; I took the roof off the place...when I got home, in a very sour mood, I found a small box on the kitchen table, with a Valentine's day card...some things you just never forget, never blow up, until all the facts are on the table.

Happy Saturday! Started the day with a couple bowls of Haunted Bookshop in the Saturday cob and coffee. Ate a bit of lunch, while watching some TV. Now, I'll have a bowl of Friar's Bayou in the Saturday cob.

I bought a couple of boxes of Ball jars last week and tonight I thought I’d open something I haven’t tried yet. I opened one of the Birds of a Feather last week (Aberrant) and am really happy I did. Anomalous had been on my mind, so I went with that. I’m on my second bowl tonight in my Butz Choquin calabash.

I bought 8 tins of each release of the BOTF, have yet to smoke one. I bought them because Per was involved, so the chance of getting stinkers was diminished.

I also bought 8 tins of each and I’m glad I did. I’ve now smoked four of the blends and they have been exceptional. If you decide you don’t like yours, I’d be happy to dispose of them for you.
