they have a new offering urbino , 'OGS Vintage Flake', was released as a limited run back in 07, like a nicely aged OGS straight outta the tin apparently,, 😁 "Orlik Vintage Flake Pipe Tobacco Fully matured Virginia tobaccos are the base of this mellow flake cut tobacco. As with Orlik Golden Sliced, the tobacco is pressed into cakes. Orlik Vintage flake then remains under pressure to allow greater infusion of the leaf in the cake until it is fully matured. The longer maturing process allows the flavours of the leaf to blend together, giving an even smoother, mellow smoking experience, enjoyable any time of the day." Interesting. I don't think I've seen that over here.

GREEK INDEPENDENCE WAR 1821-2024 Anniversary As today at 25 March 1821 the Orthodox Greeks officially started the revolution against the ottoman empire fighting the muslim turks and their allies (from albania, bosnia, tunisia, egypt, croatia, algeria etc) to end an almost 400 year old tyranny. Their motto was "Freedom of Death" and in few areas that the turks never manage to invade was "Victory or Death". May 20, 1825 Maniaki of Messinia, around 500 Greeks not well barricaded in positions faced 3000 Ottomans (turkish-egyptians). The reinforcements expected by Papaflessas (a Archimandrite) never arrived and so he faced the enemy alone. Every Greek knew they were going to die but fought to send the message to the Ottomans that they preferred Death to slavery. The film did not have the effects of Hollywood (the cavalry attacks were more numerous, the cannonade more intense, 3 of Greeks saved and took our flag so the muslims won't disgrace it etc.) but you can get an idea. Please take 10 minutes of your time to see how we fought for our Freedom back then. I am smoking Skandinavik Sungold and at dinner i will raise a glass of red wine to the memory of the fallen fellow countrymen in the battlefield, those which tortured till death in prisons and the civilians who were massacred. Great history there. I wish that we could do it once and be done, but Evil keeps coming back. Edit These movies have the dramatic music. I don't think that happens, except for British bagpipes. One piece of music I know was in the scene of one battle.

Smoking a bit more of Ennerdale in the same pipe. The tide has started trickling in, and with the full moon and wind we’re going to get high enough water to cut the island off in a few hours. I saw a few cormorants on the walk today, the eagles are abundant, and the waters are full of striped bass come in to lay their eggs. Everything is coming alive again, and soon we’ll be teeming with migratory birds making the long trek from South America feasting on horseshoe crab eggs. ‘ No country for old men’, according to a favorite Irish poet. Enjoy your evening friends. Good to see another Yeats reader here. Here is my Peterson Canadian resting on some poetry. It strikes me as a good match. I always thought Yeats' poetry paired well with a pipe....

I always thought Yeats' poetry paired well with a pipe.... I agree, and a great image and fine pairing! I remember being ‘forced’ to read “Sailing to Byzantium” back in High School, and having no clue what to make of it. But at least the seed was planted enough for me to re-read Yeats later in life. Now, it haunts me.

On my 3rd bowl of the afternoon. It's been a Haunted Bookshop kind of day. And another one after dinner.

A 50/50 mix of Half & Half and Gatlin Burley in the Caminetto 120, iced coffee on the side. Herb, what have we said about math equations here? Half and Half and Gatlin Burly makes three halfs... i'm too old to get to the answer.. And if you did add 1/2 Gatlin Burly did it not reduce the 1/2 Half and Half... I'm so confused... 2/4th half and half, all mixed up with 2/4th Gatlin Burley...really just eyeballed and tossed...not at all noteworthy, but my next smoke was Sutliff's RL-PR blend, a cube cut from the turbocat care package. It's one I'd forgotten about, and it offered up clouds of cool, slow smoking enjoyment. I could swear there's a whisper of cigar hidden in the exhale, but I got no complaint from the wife; the aftertaste is nutty burley with hints of oatmeal cookies...I was thinking this would be a nice twist for S.W.R. smokers, but when I checked at Smokingpipes.com, it's no longer in production...the pipe for this experiment was a Mark Tinsky freehand, and the match was Heavenly and trouble free. Thanks for this one, Ted!

Dark Birdseye in the clay pipe. Quiet here, dogs are napping and the tides keeps on rolling. Like it does.

Interesting. I don't think I've seen that over here.
I have several tins of OGS with plenty of age. I think it is better when fresh, age really mutes the haylike flavor that defines this blend.

Good Morning! It's 51° here with rain expected at any minute now. This afternoon I have a routine video conference call with one of my doctors from the Canton veterans clinic. I'm also supposed to take a couple of packages to the post office for my dear wife, but I'll try to get that rescheduled for tomorrow. Starting off the smoking day with a bowl of HH Pure VA Flake in the Upshall smooth quarter-bent Dublin and there's a fresh travel mugga coffee tucked underneath my jacket. Have a good one everybody!

Happy Tuesday! Started the day with a couple bowls of Haunted Bookshop in the Tuesday cob and coffee. Took the day off from painting to do other things. We'll get back into it and finish today. It's been a cool and rainy morning here. Expecting more this evening.
