Now that's a pipe smoking story. Sounds like a great man. And those plugs must be amazing. If I ever figure out how to post pictures on here, I will happily do so, đ Your photos have to be hosted online in order to post them here. I use imgbb.co. There's a thread around here somewhere on how to do it. Maybe one of us can scare it up.

Incidentally, at the time I was gifted the Warhorse, I sent a small sample to a YouTuber called 'Uncle Phil's Cellar', he did a nice VR if any of you are interested in watching it (maybe some of you already have). Oh, sure! That's Phil Rivara, right? I'll check that out.

Oh, nope, that's not Rivara. Not familiar with this guy.
So, did your grandpa take milk in his tea?

I like Philâs Cellar, one of the very few on YouTube I ever watch. I miss when he used to do the Peace Accords Blend Club videos. A bunch with some great senses of humor.

He was in the Rangers. He scaled the cliffs at Normandy, under heavy fire. He survived D-Day and stayed in Europe. Finally, in 1945 the war was over. He was ready to return home. He and his buddies were going into town to celebrate the end of the war. The jeep hit a rut, it overturned. His buddies survived. He was killed. He was 22 years old. In 1950, I was named after my uncle, the uncle that I never knew. His mother, my paternal grandmother, still mourning, died of a broken heart in 1946. I was told that they both were gentle, kind, and loving people. I hope I'll get to meet them.
His belongings were shipped back to The States. A football-shaped briar pipe was among his personal items. He probably smoked that pipe during the war, and dreamed about his future. That pipe was passed onto my dad, and now I have it. I polish it every so often, wrap in tissue paper, and put it back into a drawer. I can't smoke it.
I have that 1940s football pipe, but I wish I had my uncle.
