I was editing some images and thought I’d share a couple shots of the local eagles. We have a few families in the area, and they’re getting active again. This is an older shot, when a big fine fellow jumped on a piling right near me when I actually had my camera and long lens in hand. These are impressive fellows, but they don’t get along with the osprey. And the osprey usually come out on top in a bird fight. Nice! Especially the top one with his claws outstretched. I know nothing about osprey. But there is an organization of osprey lovers here who build very high nesting spots for them--primarily in or on the edges of the marshes--south of the tree line as we say.

We have lots of bald iggles here. But the big boys are the goldens. They will take antelope under the right conditions. I’ve seen a video of one (I think it was a golden, but maybe not) attempting to take a small child in Mongolia.
Later… it was a golden, but not Mongolia…
Also found this…

Sometimes I think they’re eyeing up our little pittie Hyacinth, but she’s too heavy for them I think

Folks often say that. “It’s too heavy for them.” But eagles and other raptors most often do not carry prey away, save for perhaps fish and small critters. They are just as happy to eat their catch right where they catch it, and not bother to tote it off at all. The talons on a golden allow for large kills. learnbirdwatching.com/which-eagle-has-the-strongest-talons/

We have some folks who maintain osprey nests back in the salt marshes. They’re truly magnificent creatures.

Working graveyard was when I did most of my photography. The wife was at work so I didn't have anything else to do during the day after I woke up.

There's some talented and interesting folks on the board! Cool topic and thanks to those sharing their work. Seems like turbocat may need to write a book or two with all of his experiences.
