As my username suggests: I am Bill. I was born in 1994. I have eoPd.
You are almost certainly wondering: Is Bill his given name? Is he 29 or 30 years old?
I have always gone by Bill but it is actually William and my birthday is in July, so I am not quite 30. I recently lost my job~career (welder) and my fiancé, as "our lives are diverging toward differing paths." I began smoking a few weeks ago, after a doctor repeatedly suggested that I do so. I dislike the smell of cigarettes but used to love the smell of my great-uncle's pipe; so I went to the only convenience store in town and bought the best (only) pipe they sell, plus two packages of their best (only) pipe tobacco: Sir Walter Raleigh.
{Also, eoPd is early-onset Parkinson's disease. That may sound exotic~glamorous but in reality, it is just Parkinson's disease.}

Pipe smoking is healthy only because we don't inhale. What benefits did your doctor say you would get out of smoking? You are probably in the right place. Several of us are in, if not the same circumstances, still dire.

Hello Bill, from South Jersey. I took up the pipe during a tumultuous time in my life. I remembered my dad smoking his pipe, and loved the smell and the cadence. My first tobacco was a wet aromatic, and although the smoke was not very good, the aromas took me back in time and were a comfort. Since then I’ve gotten quite a bit more knowledgeable about the hobby, and enjoy it more. A shelter in the time of storm, as the old psalmist said. Good to have you on board!

Pipe smoking is healthy only because we don't inhale. What benefits did your doctor say you would get out of smoking? I should clarify; the doctor did state that he could never recommend smoking but that there is mounting evidence suggesting that smoking tobacco can~does slow the onset of symptoms. He made the distinction between recommendation and suggestion quite clear, while repeatedly stating the possible~probable benefit of tobacco consumption. I do not like my chances of getting out of life alive, so there doesn't seem to be anything to lose.

I looked it up last night and he has a point. Sounds like you might have to work up to 5 or 6 bowls a day to get the full benefit. Which will make many of us envious because we're having to cut back because of heart and blood pressure problems.

Adding welcome/greets from 50mile East of Buffalo, NY. Long time with various pipe forums & chats. Much time with heavy English type blends starting in 1962. Not diagnosed with Parkinsons but do have tremors in my hands, makes writing checks quite a slow project. Michael J Fox & Muhammed Ali come to mind as well known celebrities with it. Keep going as best as you can, thanx for being open & honest

“ I recently lost my job~career (welder) and my fiancé,”
Well it is good that you got it sorted out before having kids and the financial entanglements that come with a divorce.
As for a job, there are other jobs and usually the next one is better than the last one.
Sorry about your health issues, I hope that you can mitigate the effects as much as possible.
Welcome to the forun!

Bill, I would humbly suggest that the first thing you do is to stop letting eopd define you. You are so much more than that.

Well it is good that you got it sorted out before having kids… The realization that having children is no longer a responsible~feasible option on my part, is the reason that "our lives are diverging toward differing paths."

Hello Bill. Good to see you here...stay a while and enjoy. Which Sir Walter Raleigh blend are you smoking? Are you smoking the regular version or the aromatic version? Do you like it?

Which Sir Walter Raleigh blend are you smoking? Are you smoking the regular version or the aromatic version? Do you like it? It does not actually have "regular" written anywhere on the package but I am fairly certain that it is. I enjoy pipe smoking quite a bit, especially considering the fact that I did not begin out of curiosity or compulsion.

The regular is the orange and black pouch or can. The aromatic is in a blue pouch or can.

I enjoy pipe smoking quite a bit, especially considering the fact that I did not begin out of curiosity or compulsion. It can be very meditative. A good way to make the day slow down for a while and just appreciate the sound of the birds or whatever happens to be going on around you at the moment.
