Howdy all
I've lurked for awhile and figured I'd check in.
I'm 57, retired, and live in Denver. I enjoy hiking, live music, and putz around on the guitar a little myself.
I'm active on a couple other pipe forums and recognize a face or two.
I've smoked pipes for close to 20 years and enjoy most anything. But at heart I'm a burley and Latakia smoker. Lately I've been mixing my own more often than not.
Some faves include OJK, Star of The East, Lancer's Slices, and Bob's Chocolate Flake.
I have small collection of 15 or so pipes. Mostly Estates and Artisan pipes. I ordered my first Pete system pipe and it will arrive today. I used to be dead set against any "gimmicks" in pipes. But like most things as I age I continually recognize yesterday's me was an idiot. π I'm enthused to give it a whirl.
Anyway, I won't further ramble.
Thanks for having me.
Rick Jones

Welcome Rick! For what itβs worth, I hate Peterson p-lip pipes. But Iβm clearly in the camp of the unwashed heathens on that topic. To each his own.

My first "real" pipe was a P-Lip Aran Tankard I ordered from 4 Noggins. It was also the first pipe I ever sold. I want a stem I can run a pipe cleaner through. I know that makes me a ignorant heathen. But I'm perfectly fine with that. π Thanks for the welcome. π

True enough. Plus everybody is making "reverse calabash" pipes these days. I have at least a half dozen system pipes and I love them. Once you get used to them, they will give you the best smoke you ever had. I really enjoy my system pipes, due to the construction they do create a lot of moisture in the well, but it does not make it to the smoker, pull the stem and dump the moisture....bend a pipe cleaner to swab the well or twist a paper towel to do so...lather, rinse, repeat. You would be hard pressed to live in an area that has as many opportunities as you do within a relatively small region. I just got back from the springs for a family reunion and visiting the wife's aunt in Aurora. I saw many places I would have liked to hike, but my right knee is on borrowed time, and the train left the station a long time ago on the wife's. Welcome to the forum from Arizona.

I read one discussion where a guy said he rinses under the faucet. π So far I've used one of the littler meerschaum things turbocat told me about, like I do in every pipe, and haven't found too much muck in the well. For sure. And I live on the extreme west side of Denver proper so I can be in the mountains in 15 minutes. I hike near Red Rocks a couple times a week. Appreciate the welcome. βοΈ

Welcome from michigan. I too enjoy hiking. I am discovering the joys and trials of "lunting" (walking while smoking a pipe) i believe its called.

Hello and welcome from Nevada. I really like my Pete deluxe system pipes. I don't mind the p-lip stems. What is the little Meerschaum thing you alluded to.

Thanks for the welcome, Kevin. These little guys. Ted (Turbocat) told me about them awhile ago and the dramatically improved my smoking experience, despite having been at this awhile. Just drop them in the chamber and load as usual. Makes every pipe smoke bone dry and keeps your dottle dry. I bought mine at Tobaccopipes.com. You can reuse them indefinitely
