With racks always think of future PAD. You may buy larger pipes that will not fit the rack. The open topped racks will be what you need, YMMV but nice racks none the less!

Ya know it's funny. Back in September I didn't own a pipe rack. Heck, I only owned one pipe back then. Now I've got 6. Four in the mancave and 2 at my office. Only one of them has the open areas on the top. What I've learned to do with my bent pipes (over half of em) is to turn the pipe around 180 degrees and feed the stem up into the hole, then twist it back around so that the pipe sits in there with the bowl opening facing outward. Not a perfect set up, but it works. I've thought about taking a keyhole saw to the holes and opening em up but then I have another pipe and glass of scotch and decide to do it later.

I've thought about taking a keyhole saw to the holes and opening em up but then I have another pipe and glass of scotch and decide to do it later. I used C clamps, a couple scrap pieces of 1"X4", a one inch hole saw and a cordless drill on mine. After refinishing and adding some felt to the cups, it handles my Tinsky and Boswell bents fine now.

I'm just weird I guess, I hang all my pipes bowl up,I do keep a pipe cleaner in the stem though. Also i like the classical slim bits , fish-tail and such,so I don't run into problems of the stem not fitting in the rack.
