The weather continues to ignore the calendar here. I've cut up and bagged the remaining brush piles I created a couple days ago. I've got a wheelbarrow full of kindling to stack. I'm going to dig over the compacted soil in the planting bed I made in front of the new garden box. With the bonus time I've been given this season, I'll be able to focus on planting in the spring.

Dug over the garden bed. Need to pick up more composted manure. A few bags for the new garden box and a few more for the new planting bed. After that, I think I'll call it a season!

Never thought I'd hear somebody who visits the Patch say they need even more manure.

Never thought I'd hear somebody who visits the Patch say they need even more manure. The electronic, virtual kind doesn't work in real gardens.

Shredded a big pile of leaves into the new planting bed and ran the mower through the backyard to pick up more leaves. I'll do the front lawn next.
I also did a little repair to one of the shed doors and made a ring with 1/2" chicken wire. Placed it in an inconspicuous spot. I'll fill it with more shredded leaves. I'll add the resulting leaf mold to the garden once it's ready. This is just a temporary container, I'll build something more permanent in the spring.

I got 15 cu. ft. of composted manure, ans pread it over the shredded leaves in the new garden box and planting bed. The last big job of the year. I still have the garden box with the arugula, lettuce and radishes going. They're not doing much of anything. A lot of small plants that don't want to grow. Probably planted too late. Oh well, I'll try again in April. I took a few cuttings from son-in-law's rosemary plant. I'm gonna see if I can get them to root.

As mentioned in WAYS, cleaned and organized the garden shed. Put everything in its place. My wife bought some allium bulbs, and I planted them in the new planting bed and an adjacent bed. I also planted some lupine seeds in the new bed. I can't say that I'm done for this season. I might find a few more spots to plant more flower seeds that I've collected and saved. It would be great to get a headstart on next year.
