I woke up today and said a prayer thanking G_D for the chance I was given to live a clean,sober and happy life. I have many reasons to be thankful for but I am most thankful for my family.If not for my sobriety I would be a shell of who I am today and not be blessed with a loving and wonder family. Yeah its nice to have a few nice things but family is most important to me. I also know if I was not sober some of the events going on with me now would not be handled as well as they are.

Both of my parents were hardcore drinkers, and it resulted in a pretty hellish childhood. Oh that my folks had come to their senses as you did so long ago .... their decisions had profoundly bad effects in so many ways.

My father was a heavy drinker for many years.He managed to quit a number of years before he died.I know what it can do to a family..Well deserved congratulations to you.

It is a daily struggle to maintain this control, for me it even goes into the use of prescription narcotics. I do this for myself by myself and don't look for the pat on the back. This is for me not you or anyone else.

This is for me not you or anyone else. I know the daily struggle can manifest in many different ways and for me those struggles can be worse than any pill or drink I ever had. Sometimes I find TAD and PAD right up there with my obsession of gaming. I am very lucky my wife nudges me whenever I game too much or put too much effort into finding jars for my latest purchase of tobacco. My newest obsession is acquiring whatever I think my son needs for shooting sports and when I buy him clay pigeons or ammo I buy way more than he needs "so he won't run out". |

Congratulations Mike! It's been about that for me also and I'm so glad you're able to celebrate it. There are many out there that just don't know or understand what it's like to have that chain around their neck and those who have and don't realize it. You're very lucky to have family sir, don't ever let go.
