Not sure if I've mentioned much here about our one and only Cigar & Pipe B&M shop, the Matchbox in Aberdeen NC. Sure, we have several of the "Tobacco" stores that pretty much cater to the Vapesters, RYO's & Hookah smokers, that have a few different pouch tobacco's, but the only real Pipe & Cigar shop is the Matchbox.
I first met Emmet the owner, who passed away several weeks ago, when I moved to town in 2005. A retired USAF E-9, Emmett could be a bit gruff with folks that he thought were "a waistin his time or full of sh!t" (his words). Since Emmett's passing, his wife has been running the shop with some help from a couple of the regulars (retired guys).
Though he kept a good selection of cigars, primarily a good selection of Arturo Fuente products (my favorite), his pipe tobacco offerings were very limited. Only had 1/2 a dozen jars of bulks. No pouch, tins or cans of anything else. Hence my buying the vast majority of my stash online.
So, circling this post back to the subject title. This past Saturday my son and I were both havin a cup of coffee and discussin what to do. Being as he works on the ground crew of one of the nicer country clubs in town, he didn't really have any interest in going golfing.
But, being as he and I had a few hours to kill, we decided to go down to our local B&M, buy an ounce or two of their bulk offerings and have a bowl in the lounge area (a converted store room).
Nick bought a couple of ounces of their Coffee blend. I picked up a couple of ounces of their English. That's all the jar says is English. Not sure what all is in their English, but I bought some nonetheless.
The coffee was quite nice. The English.... meh, it was ok.
The best part of the entire visit, besides getting to visit with Emmett's widow a bit, was sitting in the lounge with my son and Pipe Pal Nick. Gotta tell you guys, I'm quite proud of this young man. Good heart, good person, good manners and good grades.
Nick was smokin his rusticated bent bulldog and I was smokin my new to me Savinelli 320.
Here's a few pics.
