Liber Null & Psychonaut: An Introduction to Chaos Magic by Peter J. Carroll Where on earth did you find a copy of this? Is it a digital edition? I looked for a long time for that, couldnt come up with anything but a scanned pdf of the book that was nearly unreadable I get the distinct impression this book goes in and out of publication at random. The demand for such a book ebbs and flows as interest in the occult philosophies and practices gain positive or negative attention in the media. Amazon currently has digital and hard copy editions of the book available: Click Here.

It has been a few years since I looked for it, so you may be right about it going in and out of publication. Good to know it is available now. That's one I want for my shelf at home.

Back to the nitty gritty, retreating to my shell and listening to an audiobook version of Epictetus, the Manual of Living translated by George Long ( and a fine American reading voice) read the book a few times over the years....

Listen some more times to my Epictetus the Manual of Living audio book while planning some work & puffing on my Missouri Meerschaum Ozark Mountain Mini Hardwood Maple Straight Pipe with Black Stem with my own morning glory mix, have my mini Missouri Amber stem pipe full of HU Great Dixter to light up soon, a perfect sunny day not to hot or humid & some fresh gentle breeze. Pop is worn out it is to hot for him. After Epictetus, some Seneca then Marcus Aurelius the Meditations, life can be a game of snakes & ladders as Forrest Gump said.

I have been listening to the Stoics , Epictetus, Seneca & Marcus Aurelius, all very high minded philosophy, but get the feeling it is all rich , slave owner, lawyers , greasy propaganda but one has to accept fate, they say, the " noble lie " as the Socratics & rich and their servants proclaim. I will read the Gospel & pray & try and be silent.

The study of chess, rather than playing is conducive to relaxed pipe smoking, some books and chess software to dip into, for beginners like me , I recommend , Chess , The History of the Game, by Eales, for all those solid chair , observers of this great game. On a rainy June day, like today, what better study to sharpen your wits, and appreciation of the finer points of life.

For techies out there who prefer to try to communicate rather than fight, the keyboard is mightier than the machine gun, as Forrest Gump said. Then these two Bibles are good foundation texts.....to pick at on a rainy day in June, over a fine pipe of tobacco.

Having read a few little books in my day, and thinking of The Art Of War, by Sun Tzu & The Prince, by Macchievelli , favourite reading of office girl , feminist career ladies. I came across this Israeli pundit , favoured by West Point and such centre of excellence for the boot & beret & bugle brigade, I treated myself to these three little gems for last Christmas thanks be to Santa Claus, I must be playing the armchair general , but better than playing the bar room lawyer, or pool hustler or card shark Maverick I suppose, and far better than being a sixshooter or thief, I imagine. I have not travelled widely but wisely I feel, and I have friends who share their extensive travel tales with me, and Youtube is a window into the world beyond your ordinary traveller.

John, I'll be interested in what you thought, when done with it. I actually finished "the Hobbitt" recently (not for the first time) and thought it better than LOTR.
