I believe there is a set of tools for playing online games. Called tabletop-something or other. I saw a preview of it a couple years back, back never tracked its progress.

Something like this. Not sure how to use it or if it is even the best option.

Jackdiamond mentioned that one but was hoping to avoid it if possible.
So out of curiosity if we get this game together who is interested? Can we get a tentative list together?

My two sons played that game when they were in high school. They are in their 40's now. Been awhile since I heard about that game !

This seems promising. sourceforge.net/projects/gametableproj/You might have to download java to run it. I'm also thinking we might do non-combat stuff via the forum so we don't have to find a time when we can all play. You think the mods would mind if we got a thread going for that? If they mind, we could get a discord chat or something going.

A detailed description of what would be needed and why it is needed would be most helpful.

I love mtg but haven't bought cards in about 10 years. Me and my friends will play with our old cards. And I was curious about what kind of feed back I would get and feel out if people want to play online. Maybe if we get a good group we could just play short dungeons and rotate DM'ing. Because having that responsibility can get old fast and is a lot of work. I was playing Magic at work for a while a few years ago. Wasnt any good but it was good fun!

But I can see Diamond's point. Combat could be strange if we are rolling die on the honor system. Haha You guys would definitely think I'm cheating. I have a golden hand.

So long as you sprinkle in enough 1's in there it'll balance out

So I know r20 was hoped to be avoided but what if we start a game on there and then just possibly migrate to another system later?

You guys may not believe this but I haven’t a clue what this thread is about. There were no computer games when I was in school.

Maybe if I had some experience in this I would like to get involved with you guys but I’m afraid the old saying about teaching old dogs new tricks applies to me in this case. Good luck on your quest.

Just curious if you guys figured out a way to get a game going online? My son and I recently began the Icewind Dale Campaign. My son is the DM and there are 6 of us in the party. It is a blast and I am loving 5E. We use the d&dbeyond site and we use discord to bring my sons cousin in via vid from Florida, we live in Illinois. Other than that it is pencil and paper old school. I have a big bar in the garage that the in person party sits at. I am addicted to collecting dice. I first played back in junior high around 1983. With the different youtube channels dedicated to actual gameplay live I do believe the great roll playing game is making a very large comeback or at least I hope so. Cheers and I hope you guys found a way to game.

I think it is a pretty cool set. We created a couple of decks and have had some fun.

I wish you the best of luck. I think the youth have had their pens and papers replaced by their touchscreens and keyboards, and their words reduced to abbreviations and heiroglyphics. After we die off, they'll probably just be grunting at each other or using ones and zeros.

FWIW I regularly (weekly) game with a local group, we use the Discord app and voice / video on nights we don't get together in person (which is most since the lockdowns began). Though we don't use any of the published game systems, we are using a D10 based system we call Story Engine. We emphasize the role play more than the dice and mechanics, that said we developed a way to convert real world energy calculations (Muzzle energy) for firearms into repeatable dice damage.
You might look into just using a voice chat system such as Discord or Zoom for online games. Yes it requires a bit of the honor system, but We're all adults here right?

My sons and nephews play online. I join occasionally. Roll20 is the easiest online gaming site. Nothing to download, and there is a free play option, though I think one of the players needs to be subscribed str a pay level. Fantasy Grounds is another, but you need to download an app. I know that Roll20 offers in game audio and video, but you can use zoom, Skype or discord for that if you want. They play every saturday night and have played for years. There are some long running campaigns in there. But somebody needs to set up the game and that's a bit of work.
