My wife and I are the guardians of a handicapped boy who needs 24 hour supervision so I stay up late. Some times until 3:00 AM I'm usually here late at night after she goes to bed. It's 11:30 right now.I'm just wondering how many computers you have in your house.Or can you use your phone to post here?

At the moment I am using a phone and its data plan. I have a cockroach-like Toshiba laptop that's ready, but I am not using it at the moment.

We have 4 laptops in the house. The pc has been in the attic for over 4 years. I also have an iPad and the Blonde has an Amazon Fire tablet.
I hardly ever use the iPad, the Blonde uses her tablet every night surfin pinterst.
Being a pretty proficient typer I find myself frustrated trying to use the iPad. It's much easier to use the laptop, like I am now, when I'm on the various forums.

2 kindle fires 2 Ipads 2 Iphone 7 plus's 1 PC...still my preferred route Toshiba satellite laptop.
I am not a big fan of the tablet, and I like using a mouse...laptop built in mouse's are a PITA to me, granted, I have never spent big dollars on laptops.

1 desktop 2 laptops
Hardly use the laptops, one I just reloaded. At one time I had four desktops networked together and my boys and I would play "Delta Force" against each other. It was a real hoot yelling smack talk from one room to the other.I do have a smart phone but I'm too old/blind to try surfing the web on it.

Well if we're including smart phones, tablets, and PDAs and things I have more than 60 computers in my house. I typically have 5-10 desktop workstations set up around the house but currently only have a few on and running because I had to leave a few desktops in Florida when I moved back here at the end of April. I'm a computer programmer and often getting older Pentium 4 and core2 duo machines for dirt cheap or completely free. It's funny, Windows users think their older XP machines or Vista machines are junk because they can't run the newer operating systems, or they think they can't. A lot of windows users also get rid of their machines when they get a bunch of malware or virus of some sort. They don't understand you can wipe the drive and install something fresh on the machine. I run all unix environments so I often times take one of those old machines and install a command line environment on it for testing purposes and networking. Works like a new free machine.

Yeah...they are poison to young minds, and is pretty addictive to them critters. I held out a long time for my son, eventually got him a gameboy and it was like giving crack to Charlie Sheen.
I have an old Toshiba satellite laptop that was an "open box buy" it originally came with Windows 8 (750 mb hard drive) and was getting tired, my buddy is an IT guy he recommended that I get a solid state hard drive replacement (250gb)...wow what a difference, lightning fast speeds, firing it up from off is almost instantaneous.

LOL. There's nothing wrong with the kids playing games, so long as during the day they are made to go outside and play and excercise. I always played games growing up, but if the sun was up, I was never inside the house. Period. My parents had to fight me to be home on time I'd have rather lived outside. About the Solid State Drives. Makes a huge difference going from a mechanical hard drive with spinning platter and moving arm to a solid piece of flash memory that works like a flash drive/thumb drive stick. There's no disk arm to move and read from the correct memory location on a spinning platter.

Pretty much verbatim what my buddy told me ...it kind of amazed me that the Samsung hard drive came with a 5 year warranty...for them to do so tells me that it must be pretty dependable. As for my son...yeah, we had to erect some parameters. Eventually he got pissed off and tired of his folks telling him what to do, so he joined the Marine Corps.

If you're talking about Samsung SSD drives and not hard drives, then I regret to tell you in the field I've had tons of Samsung SSDs drives go bad within barely a year or two. They will replace them though in the event they go bad. Their earlier drives a few years ago were pretty poor.

Charlie, the first revisions of the drives were kind of buggy and the newer ones made within the past two years are much, much better. With luck you'll have it beyond 5 years.

I have 3 working desktops 3 notebooks 2 netbooks 2 tablets 1 Amazon Fire This sounds like a lot, but it's a lot less than the 60 servers, 42 desktops, 8 notebooks and 3 Surfaces that I had to take care of before I retired. I rarely get on my PC, which is a Dell Precision workstation with an 8 core Xeon and 64 Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 512 Gb SSD and 4 TB backup drive. (I am very impatient with computers) That was a retirement present from the company. I do 99% of my posting and reading from the phone. It was a Note 3, now a Samsung J7 something. The newest SSDs are the best way to add new life to an old PC.

I have two laptops -- one isn't working. We thought it was the fan and a friend changed it, it booted up a couple times and then it was doing the same thing -- shutting down immediately upon boot up. *sigh* I loved that computer. I have a netbook I use now, but it is really slow at times loading things. I'd like to get a new computer but I don't want Windows 10, I'd like to stick with Windows 7 or something like that. But I like the convenience of my netbook -- I can stick it in a totebag and carry it around easily. I have a dumb phone. I don't like all the apps, I don't need to be able to access the internet. All I need to do is be able to make a phone call in an emergency or text friends (because I prefer texting) and that's all this phone does. Can't take photos, can't send or receive photos or emojis.
