What is the easiest to use lighter? With my low hand strength I can only use this Lotus lighter Or the Zikar model that is so popular. Both give inconsistent lights. I've sent the Lotus in for repairs already. I cannot operate a Bic, it's just too hard for me to operate.

Matches are the way to go. To easy to scorch the rim with a lighter

Bic, Cheap, easy, and I don't have to worry about losing it. And I was a confirmed Zippo user for 40 years.

I use the Xikar model similar to the Lotus you pictured. Great dependable lighter and a lietime warranty.

Sorry, It seems I missed your statement about not being able to use a BIC. I would look for something like your Lotus but, in throw away form. I think this way you'll not need to worry about repairs and the lose of it. Wish I knew of one but, I've never had a reason to look further.

And I can buy about 10-20 Bics and place them everywhere around the house on every table if I want. I do jump back and forth from matches to Bics myself. With low hand strength you can still always remove the child safety bar on the Bic and have someone roll the wheel over the flint about 50 times to get it broken in and started. They light really easily at that point.

As stated previously, Bics are OUT, cannot use them, even with mods, same with the popular Djeeps, the local weed shop has all the various throw-always that we went through.

I have read of pipesters having a lighted candle going and using twine to light their pipe. Given the hand issue, this might be an alternative.

I am an IM Corona fanboy (particularly the Old Boy). Not sure it's the "easiest" to use, but I have put my Old Boy through hell and it still works, so from a sturdiness point of view, it's the easiest since it'll outlive the owner (i.e. much less hassle of getting it repaired).

I know with a zippo you can light with finger instead of thumb. And although not convient out and about at home maybe a trigger lighter with flexible head like this

Then by far, it's hands down matches. Matches still are the best flame for pipe smoking anyway. You can manipulate the flame best and easy to strike. I always keep big 250 count boxes of Diamond kitchen matches. There's also a classic aesthetic to smoking pipes with wooden matches. I've gotten strange comments about being a young pipe smoker and I've also gotten comments about actually smoking pipes with matches. Matches go hand in hand with piping. Pipes are old fashioned, and so are matches.

The Thunderbird inserts mentioned by Lady Margaret are easy to use, cheapish, and hold up well. Soft flame.

I like them because you just flick the flint wheel like you would with a Zippo and the flame stays lit until you close the lid -- no need to hold down a button to keep the flame lit.

Photos won't be included this time (thanks PhotoSuckIt) but I found a very easy to use lighter- Firebird Wildcat.
Small, low tension thumb operated , top lever, instant ignition that has not failed to light every time that I try it. Best part is that it is a turbo torch model. My bowls get lit faster, deeper, fewer re-lights, flame is concentrated and controlled instead of hitting all sides of the rim like my soft flame lighters do. When I watched the Frank method video on YouTube he was using a similar one, although all pipe purists are biased against them, practicality and physics will have me using this one for a long time to come.

OR
I'd be careful of the flame myself, could seriously scorch a rim.

One on the bottom. You'll have to watch the video on YouTube of the guy showing how to pack a pipe using the Frank method and how he lights up a pipe using a torch lighter.
but again it's very easy for me to use, that's the main reason I will be using it. Thanks for the pictures, I didn't know that they made the wider model.

I know the Frank method and unsure how that affects anything but, my dexterity with a lighter other then a zippo is sad at best and I have a problem with those "Old Boy lighters and remakes. There like using a left hand lighter to me. Hell, half the time I use to burn my thumb when using a Bic till a callus built up.

Well, I see what he means and I'm sure it works fine for you smoking indoors without a breeze.

Well, I see what he means and I'm sure it works fine for you smoking indoors without a breeze. I don't smoke indoors. It does work 100% better outdoors with the fan blowing across me as now my torch flame doesn't get blown out like my soft flame lighters did

At my my local Albertsons, they had a dozen of these clearanced out for .99 apiece. you can get a whisper of a flame deep in the bowl for re-lights.

That was the lighter I had a photo of before Photosuckit hijacked me. The have both normal like a bic flame, and a little stronger for "wind resistant" that I use for my grill that still has a soft flame but a little more umph to resist a SMALL breeze better than a bic, but still inot in the zippo category (nothing is IMO).
