It is, and it isn't. Frankly if you don't like too many C&D blends then you may not end up liking too many from Pease, either. He's got plenty of his own blends that are not like C&D, but how they are similar is how they both like to create the most natural tobacco blends most of the time. They mainly forego toppings (all tobacco, every single tobacco you smoke is cased. Not the same as toppings.) and so you get stronger earthy burley and Virginia flavors in most their blends. If you don't like that, you may want to stick with sweeter blends that you like. If you like mild VaPers though, Greg has several that are just excellent. Thanks, I'll take that as a warning! Not a fan of mild VaPers. There's something about the flavor of Orientals C&D uses that I can't appreciate, and the VAs sometimes seem harsh to me. @chico, of you haven't tried G.L. Pease Union Square, you definitely should. It is certainly not harsh, and is a straight Virginia with no topping (flavoring added). Highly recommended, especially with some age upon it.

I have Stonehenge, Gaslight, and Maltese Falcon all based solely on the wonderful tin art, but have yet to open one. Also, some of the descriptions on these Pease blends are as wonderful as the label. Every tobacco firm should have an artistic person on staff. In fact, I think Gaslight will be my next smoke.

Gaslight is a great Red Virginia/Latakia mix. I enjoy it because the Red virginia really stands out in the mix. Enjoy that smoke!

I like Sixpence, Lagonda, and Westminster in that order.

Cracked a tin of Haddo's Delight a couple of days ago. I have tried it in a Cob, Briars and a Meer. Tried it out of the tin and with some drying time. All I can say it is a good smoke, don't taste the Virginia's or the Perique. Very mild in flavor, roommate and strength. To me it stands with LBF as a fill in smoke.

Embarcadero, Union Square, and Stratford. All with a bare minimum of one year of age; more is better.
I find Union Square to be very similar to C&D Opening Night which is slightly cheaper per tin.

Piccadilly and union square. I need to try more of his blends. Add Haddo's Delight!

On the most recent country squire podcast, JD did a review on Regent's flake...it sounds like a great smoke, and the reviews at TR are generally very complimentary. I am going to have try it out.
I really like Union Square, I think that I have a few tins with about 3 years age on them.

Agree with you johnlawitzke . I will say that Opening Night seems to have a little more "tang" to it, however. They have similar flavors though.

My experience with a lot of GLP and C&D blends with a high Va content are they are too young right after tinning. There are quite a few that I thought tasted papery 3 or 6 months after tinning and I didn't enjoy them. Once they got past a year old, the papery taste went away and I started to enjoy the blend. C&D Yorktown is one of the few Va blends that smokes good young. With that blend, I think it's the stoving that helped.

A great blend with a touch of cigar leaf, Key Largo. Next, Abington (my daily smoke) and then the rest: Ravens Wing, Bohemian Scandel, Renassaince (the older version not the newer one), and Mephisto. Picidilly is great too to and on rare occasion I like his Two Friends, English Chocolate. I pefer at least 2 years of age on them. I haven't tried Stonehedge Flake as of yet.
