This morning started off pleasantly with a nice cup of coffee in my hand and some mellow tunes. Then, suddenly, I felt this pain in my side like I'd been poked with something sharp. Upon tossing back the pillow I was leaning on, there sat a small scorpion ... WHACK, WHACK ... SQUISH!!!
The initial sting isn't too bad but it builds in the area and spreads. Almost three hours later now, it feels like I was stabbed in the ribs and my lips are tingly. I also have a mild headache and slightly blurred vision.
On the upside, if this continues I'm going home for the day!

I was going to say same thing. Had a buddy get stung and ended up in hospital for a week because he waited too long. Not something to take lightly.

I used to have a tarantula and I guess I was under the assumption that it's no worse than a bee sting or tarantula bite. I know it would depend on the species of scorpion but off hand I can't remember which dangerous ones live in AZ. Based on what has been said I'd go to the doctor or hospital to check it out.

Just ran over to the ED and they said that unless it gets much worse (difficulty breathing) to just take some Benadryl and wait it out.
The anti-venom that they would administer to a child or allergic person is $10,000 a shot!
Thanks for your concerns, however ... truly appreciated!

I hope you get well soon! I am thankful for living in a place that is devoid of venomous animals. 10K a shot? Those greedy big pharma bastards! You better jump in the car and go to Mexico or a ship to Cuba where they would treat you for a handful of Dollars.

I have a lot of trouble with the "Quote" function here.
That's supposed to say ...
I don't know ... the European Hamster looks pretty vicious!

Are you sure it wasn't Fubar Bohica? This stuff is great, and it says it works on scorpions.... I have never had any at my home, but I think that they are more afraid of the venom that I retain.www.amazon.com/Tengard-One-Shot-Liquid-Termiticide-Insecticide/dp/B004FEL6K0When I first went to the local weed and bug mart, they wanted to sell me some Tengard, and I felt like I needed to donate some plasma, a kidney and a cornea for the prices they wated..went online and it was a fraction of the price. You can use it outdoors, indoors, and it even has a mixing ratio that is safe to wash a horse with...I would spray around the house foundation when it is cooler, and get the entryways really good, and hit the baseboard trim in the house. I bought the backpack sprayer for outside, and use a spray bottle from Ace hardware on the interior.
Hope that you get to feeling better...if not, don't follow Franks advice and go to Cuba or Mexico, swing by the casa and we will polish off that bottle of Makers Mark, and smoke some Curly Block...it may not heal you, but then again, you won't care.

wow. okay, i'm never visiting arizona! It really isn't that bad here, after numerous rattlesnake bites it lessens the negative effects from a scorpion sting. I cannot prove it, but rumor has it that Darin's scorpion sting wasn't truly accidental...after all the inconvenience and the suffering that his wife had to put up with hosting the Arizona pipe club, he got off pretty light.

No attack hamsters here but one (very rarely seen) snake the so called "Kreuzotter" which is venomenous and its bite could kill the elderly or children in the worst case. Then it is said that a certain spider is migrating from Italy into Germany which bite can cause severe and enduring pain and necrosis in the wound. Well, I hope I don´t stumble over that one... Apart from that the wolf is back, even in our area!

I hope you get to feeling better & the Benadryl works for you.
That's outrageous how much an anti-venom shot costs. I saw a show once on how they milk the venom from snakes & other poisonous creatures to make the anti-venom. It didn't look like it was an easy job & there's not many places that do the collecting, if I remember correctly.

Benadryl!!!!!?? I would have told them to stuff it. Doctors nowadays I swear, bunch of worthless whores. I hope it don't get much worse sir, the littler the Scorpion the more deadly they say. My house in Lakeworth, Tx. was full of the little bastards, had to shake your boots out every morning. You need to find where there coming in at and block it up unless you like sleeping with the little buggers.

Here in Oklahoma we have Brown stinging scorpions, just a hair worse than a Bumble Bee. I keep Ichthammol ointment on hand,it's a drawing salve.Looks like tar.Last year when I got bit by a Brown Recluse I put it on the bite and Hydrocortizone around that.I may have a scar but I didn't buy a new wing on the hospital.
First criter that ever stung me was a scorpion and after 22 years in pest control I still hate them enough that I will destroy a house to KILL that bug.Cypermethrin works well on keeping them at bay.You can find it in products like Bug Stop and I think Orto's Home Defense has it.Big thing is to keep mulch, stacks of paper or wood away from the house.Keep boxes up off a concrete floor.any damp cool place will attract them. They can flatten their body and slid sideways under a brick or board or box.So tip it up and look before you grab.Good advice for snakes as well.I stomped a Copper head a couple weeks ago, third one this summer.

When I was in Army basic at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. we were on a field training exercise and the guy in my tent with me got bit on the forehead by a Brown Recluse. The next morning he had a red welt on his forehead, three days later there was a hole in the skin on his forehead about the size of a quarter. He ended up getting recycled because he couldn't wear his Kevlar helmet anymore and they wouldn't let him on the rifle range without one on. 😱
