Second Act (2019). It really feels like Jennifer Lopez tried making two films at once and then stuck them together. It plays like a rom-com without being one which just feels weird. Very fun first thirty minutes and a few other moments scattered throughout. Don't expect too much.

Women on the Run (1950) Nice camara angles, good plot, no twist but Ann Sheridan playing things cool. The middle is a little loose and there's some fifties moralizing but a quality noir.

Just watched "Mud". Great, great movie. I liked everything about it. Excellent story and acting. Wonderful river scenery and settings. I give it 9/10.

Io - 6/10
Bird Box - 5/10
Solo - 5/10
Honestly haven't seen anything lately that I loved. Had better success with serial TV (Ozark, The Americans, Stranger Things etc.)

Finally saw Aquaman. Plot 4/5,acting 5/5, FX 4/5, sound editing sucked. Dialog was 100 dB below the peaks and 70 dB below average volume for the movie. Too busy and too fast, like the director didn't want you to get a good look at anything. Some of the parts = 3/5.

The Incredible Shrinking Man, 1957. Written by Twilight Zone writer Richard Matheson, and it shows - a literate, trippy, metaphysical movie despite being a bit dated. 5/5 I loved that movie when I was a kid ... Good 1 !

I watched The Devil and Daniel Webster, based on a short story by Stephen Vincent Benet. The story, set in 1840, revolves around a farmer who makes a deal with the devil to be delivered from a life of hard endless struggle. When the farmer balks at the deal, the devil, played with deliciously restrained malice by Walter Huston, makes ready to claim his due early for breach of contract. The farmer turns to Daniel Webster, played by Edward Arnold, to defend him before a jury of the damned. The film is rich with an Americana that seems so remote today. William Dieterle's direction is immaculate, the photography by Joseph August is consistently visually stunning, and Bernard Herrmann's otherworldly score (which won him an Academy Award) perfectly supports the story. This is a classic of American film, richly detailed, well paced, and buoyed by fine performances from all involved. If you haven't seen this film I heartily recommend it to you. 4.5 out of 5 1 of my all time favs' !

Glass (2019) over explained and the twists aren't anything someone who's read comics wouldn't expect. James McAvoy looks really busy throughout and must have enjoyed filming a lot.

Lord of the Rings:Fellowship of the Ring- years since I've seen it. Enjoyed it much more this time around. Can't help thinking Sam and Frodo should have been as brave as Homer and Spiderpig(or is that Harry Plopper?). Anyway 9/10
Sing- formulaic, but good fun. Lots of good songs too. 8/10
The good, the bad and the ugly- timeless classic! 9/10

Song of the South. I finally got a copied DVD from Australia and got to see it for the first time since I was a kid. Funny, but you are only one errant click away from gay porn every time you use Google, but this Disney kids movie is banned. The actor who played Uncle Remus was the first male black actor to win an Academy Award for his part. Anyway, I watched it and I liked it, again. As an adult I have to give it a 4/5.

Brad, if you enjoyed Hell or High Water, I think you would enjoy "Mud". Did you see "Wind River"?. Also excellent. All three are movies with great acting and writing, plus great plotlines and settings. My kind of movies. They are indeed rare nowadays.

Yes Don saw all of those you mentioned and they were in my book fine cinema, as a Southner I love a story, now saying that I’m not adverse to changing times, my son touted Venom to me and I streamed it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Rewatching The Shootest, I don’t admire John Wayne , nor hate him, just like some of his movies, Jimmy Stewart is my man, good American, stepped up when called and made some fine movies.

Last movie I saw was a movie I'd rather forget. Watched it last night. An Australian made knockoff of Independence Day. Can't and don't want to remember the name. Saw it on Netflix. I'd give it a zero star if that were possible. In the end the humans and the aliens made friends by shaking hands. That was the only entertaining scene. However, I am looking forward to Season 3, Episode 3 of True Detective this evening.

Jimmy Stewart is my favorite actor of all time, Brad. His westerns are amongst the best. Also like Randolph Scott and Glenn Ford. John Wayne was a favorite of mine growing up, but not so much anymore. I did watch "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" last night, for about the 20th time. Great cast. As an Okie, who grew up playing on the Canadian River, I love a good story too, especially when it has a coming of age element. "My Dog Skip" comes to mind.

My wife and I decided to pick up a movie from Redbox. Watched Oceans 8, and while no great shakes, it was entertaining to watch. Fluffy stuff lowers my stress level.

"The Last Hurrah", 1958. Spencer Tracy as an aging Mayor of an unnamed New England city which is clearly Boston running for re-election. With almost the entire John Ford Stock Company in supporting roles. Ricardo Cortez, an underrated actor, is also present. No one jerks sentiment like Ford. Much laughter and weeping. I was Irish for two hours or so.

King of Thieves - Micheal Cane. Think of it as a real life Ocean's 11 but older Brits. Being based on a true story you are not going to see fancy gimmicky tricks of Hollywood. It is an interesting story. Love the dialog between these old burglars.

From what I have heard Mr Scratch is a somewhat nicer person than Huston was. Ask the actors from The African Queen. You might be thinking of John Huston ("The African Queen"). Walter Huston, who was in "The Devil and Daniel Webster" and "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre", was his father. Yes, John Huston was known to be hard on lesser mortals. Clint Eastwood made a great picture portraying John Huston while making TAQ.

Eldorado with John Wayne and Robert Mitchum. I have no idea how many times I seen this movie but it’s one I always enjoy.

My 2 kids and 2 of my neices picked the Red Box movie today. They're all teens. So I was worried. They chose Venom starring Tom Hardy. I am a fan of Hardy's work. Therefore, I thought I had gotten lucky with the pick.
Sadly I was mistaken. The movie sucked. Really bad.
Everything one can hate about a Marvel movie was in Venom.
I'm disappointed in Mr. Hardy. I hope he makes better choices in the future. His talent is too good for this garbage.

Finally watched Bridge of Spies last night. Very good. Hanks did his normal fine job, but it was Mark Rylance that made that movie click. I was unfamiliar with him until I saw him in Wolf Hall (highly recommended). Rylance is a very fine actor.
