If you've got the Netflix, you should check out The Ritual but only if you are a fan of being freaked the hell out. This film is set in the Swedish woods, four friends take a hiking trip, they are from England, and things get really weird really fast. This is the first good horror flick I've seen in a while so if you like the genre, give it a watch.

Just watched Black Panther with my daughter. Not a bad film - quite different to the other Marvel Universe films. I'd give it 70%

Went to see the new "Death Wish" with my girlfriend Saturday. It was the first screening of the film in our town. Bruce Willis plays the lead role. 3/5.

Watched Hacksaw Ridge last night. It was excellent. I'm not normally into war films, but I really enjoyed this - especially since it was based on a true story.
I'd give it 83%

I went to see the new Tomb Raider and boy, just watching Alicia Vikander run around so much made me tired. I like how they handled her character but disliked the shakey cam. I also saw Darkest Hour and agree with others that it's surprising how little smoking is going on. The film is fine and Oldman is very good but my dad wouldn't stop commenting on the historical inaccuracies which ruined the watching experience. Curiously enough Kristen Scott Thomas was in both movies!

I watched Zombie (1979) last night and it was pretty bad. I don't mind some B movies, but found this one boring.

"Gone Girl". I liked it a lot. Creepy bitch from hell, played perfectly by Rosamund Pike. I give it 8/10.

Saw both, Billboards and Shape of Water, was not aware of who was in shape, probably would of passed had I known Shannon was in it, didn't like his comments about old Trump voters, saying that My Wife and I enjoyed Shape and thought it was unique and deserved best picture.

Wes Anderson's Isle Of Dogs is by turns a bit goofy , child-like, serious, and horrific. A cautionary tale of the consequences of eternal resentment, political corruption versus the power of bravery, loyalty, and devotion, set in the framework journey story, Isle Of Dogs, set in a future imaginary Japan, tells the tale of a boy who has defied the authorities to find and rescue his exiled dog. More adult than Fantastic Mr Fox, really not for small kids (unless you think your 6 year old will be fine watching a graphic animated recreation of a kidney transplant operation) Isle Of Dogs is a smart, funny entertainment for older kids and adults. Besides, the news anchor smokes a pipe on screen! 4 out of 5 stars

Doing a bit of catching up, two weeks ago I went to a screening of the new restoration of Cecil B DeMille's 1927 epic, King Of Kings. The restored movies was nothing short of glorious with some truly astonishingly beautiful photography, and equally astonishingly beautiful early 2 strip Technicolor. The story is told in a straightforward fashion, and being a DeMille production, lacks for nothing when it comes to epic scale and a nice bit of sex for spice. Gotta show those sinners before they become redeemed! HB Warner provides a beautifully nuanced, very natural, performance as Jesus of Nazareth, which provides a welcome contrast to some of the more bombastic and melodramatic performance style that DeMille liked to employ. For those of you not familiar with Warner, he later played the druggist, Mr Gower, in It's A Wonderful Life. For those of you who are unfamiliar with It's A Wonderful Life, you have my profound pity.
This being the world premiere of this restoration, the screening was held in the nave of Grace Cathedral, atop Nob Hill in San Francisco. You couldn't pick a more perfect setting than the grand Gothic expanses of this historic cathedral for presenting a film like King Of Kings. The screening was held under the auspices of the San Francisco Silent Film Festival, who partly funded the effort to save King Of Kings before it succumbed to loss by deterioration. The film's restorer, Serge Bromberg, flew in from Paris to offer a brief bit of background about the international detective hunt to find the best remaining elements that resulted in this restored version. The film was provided with live musical accompaniment by organist David Briggs on the cathedral's 7400+ pipe organ. His improvised 2 1/2 hour performance was as remarkable as the film itself. Briggs pull the stops, literally, as he spun the most stunning textures and colors from that organ, using subtle effects to underscore the story points of each and every scene.
Altogether the event was a triumph, as witnessed by the prolonged standing ovation of the large audience.
King Of Kings is not just a film, but a cultural treasure, a fine entertainment, and well worth the time to experience it. 5 out of 5

Just out of The Greatest Showman. Went to see it with my daughter (it was her 3rd time). I've gotta say, it was a terrific show, if you're into that kind of thing. The music and choreography were excellent. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I'd give it 88%.

Cry Vengeance: A workman-like noir, well cast and put together. The director was anything but ambitious with the exception of the first and last shot.

All I see is you: Blake Lively and the crew really wanted a trip to Spain and Thailand. Luckily they took with them her continued ambition to win awards and a wonderful photographer. As a thriller it's predictable and as a drama it refuses to let its protagonists confront each other.

Barnum beggars all belief.

Fresh breath in a genre that has in my opinion been suffering (with a few exceptions) since the mid-nineties.

Watching The Titan on netflix. What always strikes me as a stupid plot in sci-fi writing, is when people leave Earth to rebuild civilization on one celestial body or another. Even if Earth was reduced to a massive desert plagued by endless electrical storms and roving radioactive clouds, it would still be less of a challenge to build a life-sustaining habitat here than anywhere else in the universe that we know of. The shear cost and challenge of getting the necessary equipment and provisions to another location would be too great to even merit trying(I mean, The U.S. went bankrupt just shipping bottled water and air-conditioners to Afghanistan for a decade..) It is as if sci-fi writers are unwittingly building a fantasy out of the basic human penchant for saying 'This is difficult. Screw it, I'm bailing' haha
I guess the deus ex machina device used in this film is that they have drugs that biologically change humans- making them capable of withstanding the harsh climates of other worlds, which begs the question 'why cant this drug just be administered so that people can survive the harsh environmental changes of Earth? haha The simple answer: It would make for a boring film
I'm not sure I am going to finish it.

I enjoyed this one, but you definitely need to just roll with it and not over think it. The protagonist's wife was quite attractive too, which helped.

@walkman
I wasn't a fan of the end, but overall it was okay. It wasn't what I expected. More of a monster movie than a space movie.
Watching the trailer before hand, I thought she was Emily Blunt- I was crestfallen to find she was not.

"Lawless" with Tom Hardy, Shia LeBeouf, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain and Gary Oldman. I was hoping for more out of this movie. The story had potential, but just kind of plodded along. Uninspired acting for the most part. Hardy appeared to be barely awake. Oldman and Pearce were decent. Coworkers told me it was an awesome movie. I disagree. I would give it a 5.5/10.

Just watched Glory, which recounts the story of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, the first all black regiment in the Union Army. Very well crafted, beautifully photographed, great performances, though Mathew Broderick seems an odd choice to me. 4.5 out of 5

Hostiles, a Western with Christian Bale, thoughtful man against Indian movie if such a thing exists, shows you can fight and hate your enemy but still respect the man. I liked how it was a humanizing view about hatred that get tempered over time. Very good movie.

Logan. 5/10. Yeah, well made, serious, dark, blah-de-blah. But so overt-the-top with the head slashing and impaling that it got humorous and tedious. And poor Patrick Stewart, playing a babbling fool.

Not troubled by Broderick. The scene before the final battle where he is staring out to sea and releases his horse knowing he will likely not survive was very moving. "Give 'em HELL, 54!"
