Now working on a Villiger 125 Gordo. Kind of early for a cigar of this size but I'm determined not to let it go out.

Last night I smoked a Cuban Partagas out of a box I bought from Sept 2007, the same month/year my son was both. I smoke 1 a year on his birthday. This year I was late to to illness but I smoked it last night during the fight. Good 11 year old stick imgur.com/a/79emHcJI also smoked a Nica Rustica after it

Had a Padron Anniversario 1964 on the porch this morning. First cigar in a long while. Cigars are best, I have found, when its a little chilly outside. Don't know why.
My neighbor came by and I invited him to my porch for a smoke and some coffee. He smokes RYO cigarettes. I finished my cigar and well... I had light up another.
55 degrees and cloudy out.
My neighbor is a dufus who gets in his own way most of the time, but you know what, I am too. So here, on my porch, a couple of jamokes smoking and yaking and drinking coffee, complaining about how unfair it is that we have to live with the consequences of our own bad decisions, life is freeeking wonderful.
I have to add that part of the fun is that our other neighbor, across the street, is an anti-smoking nazi. Anti-smoking, anti-drinking, and looks at me cross wise when I play the banjo on my porch. I don't antagonize him deliberately, but having fun has never been more fun than since he moved into the neighborhood.

Here lately for the past two and a half weeks or so I have been smoking a Asylum robusto Maduro 50 ring gauge. It's a pretty good cigar and last me until I get to the job site

My son doesn’t ask me for anything, didn’t even want a big birthday party so I suggested a cabin trip and he is very excited to share it with his friends

That sounds like a winner with a different wrapper. I sure wish the El Rey de los Habanos en robusto would emerge on the scene once again from Miami (or even Nicaragua). I'm dreaming of course

The new ones are excellent, but aged this is really special.

Smoking a Rocky Patel Ocean Club John, how did yours burn? Last one I smoked I could not get the cigar to burn even. Was a good smoke, but relighting to often was frustrating.

Good topic of conversation with the cigar guys ... methods to keep an even burn. Here's my usual techniques: 1. A good toasting prior to the real light 2. Keep the "short" side to the bottom as this area burns a little faster 3. Tiny bit of water / saliva just above the "fast" burning area 4. Final and always last resort - use the lighter again on trouble spots to help it catch up How about it? What's your routine?

It burned a little unevenly but I was able to manage it; I use all the techniques that Darin describes. Sometimes nothing works though. It was a pretty good little smoke.

Darin, Never have the uneven burn on ANY Padron, Arturo Fuentes or Punch cigars I’ve smoked in the past few years. On my first light I make sure the entire bottom edge of the cigar has an even burn to start out with. This uneven burn has been common with other Rocky Patel cigars as well. My favorite was “ The Edge “ which has had many burn issues in the past year. JMHO....Rocky Patel cigars overall quality is not what it’s been in the past.
All FOUR of your recommendations I’ve used in the past. I’ve been smoking cigars since the age of 16 and my first pipe at age 17. The last “ Edge “ I smoked burned so poorly I ended up using one of my cigar cutters to cut off the uneven portion and relight the cigar. After a few minutes of smoking I noticed the cigar once again was burning uneven after I toasted the outer leaf. Last year a friend sent me a holiday gift box of “ The Edge “, only 9 smoked perfectly with maybe one relight. The majority of the 9 smoked with that perfect ash with just the first light.

All good techniques that I use for troublesome cigars. I used to try to use the saliva or water technique but sometimes put out the cigar accidentally. Now I tend to torch the long side and hope it corrects itself or a combination of the two. And I keep the long side on top like you do.
