One of the things I liked about Glenn Campbell was the fact that after his vast stardom had dimmed, he went back to being a session guitarist for other musicians. The egos of a lot of successful people would not allow them to do that. We used to watch his TV show back in the 1970s, and I liked his performance in True Grit. A multi-talented man with a long career.

Agreed. R.I.P. He amalgamated many musical influences and he had a broad and expansive approach, often dismissed in clichés and pigeon holing by those who did not recognize his talent.

adding my RIP to Glen's family. I gave free reign to my son's Mom to pick his name. No argument, I enjoyed Campbell's long career also.

I remember listening to Gentle on my Mind as a kid, my brother had it on 8 track. I grew up listening to his music & have some fond family memories thanks to it.
RIP Mr. Campbell, you were a class act & will be missed.

A tragic end to a brilliant career. There are performers who wish they had half the success he had.

I have been a fan since being a little kid, he was an incredible guitarist, and a hell of a vocalist also. I wanted badly to go to his farewell tour, but missed out.

Like many only music could pull him from the grips of Alzheimers at times. Heckuva guitar player and I think he once played with the Beach Boys. RIP

I received my late Christmas present from my daughter today, it was Glenn's last recording, "Adios" is the title of the album. Like many only music could pull him from the grips of Alzheimers at times. Heckuva guitar player and I think he once played with the Beach Boys. RIP Not only the Beach boys, but quite a few other entertainers that I was unaware of... and that earlier post on classical gas really showcased his guitar work.www.glencampbell.com/guitarA song that Carl Jackson wrote about his life... And Adios, the last cut.

I enjoyed his singing and television appearances. He was gentlemanly country guy.
His role in the original "True Grit" was first rate. I cannot imagine anyone else doing as well playing with John Wayne.
RIP, Sir and thank you!!!

Thanks for posting that Charlie ... he was truly one of the greats. He had what seems like an unlikely close relationship with Alice Cooper too ... odd pairing!

Edited: I watched the video after I posted, and Alice confirmed it in his opening statement. Awesome clip! I didn't realize that when he got a DUI Alice was riding shotgun...he sure hated Sheriff Joe's tent city. A great testimony to their faith! Thanks for posting that Charlie ... he was truly one of the greats. He had what seems like an unlikely close relationship with Alice Cooper too ... odd pairing! I think they share a common bond...I do not know about Glens spiritual journey as a kid, but growing up in Arkansas, there is a pretty good chance that he grew up under that guidance and became a prodigal son..he was a horndog, got heavy into coke and alcohol, that is well documented. Alice Cooper's dad was a Baptist preacher, I am not sure if Alice got caught up in drugs, but he looks like he did! In the first video that I posted, Glen and his wife speak of their faith, and I personally know a guy that has attended bible studies with Alice Cooper...I suspect that is a common bond. I am not sure if Alice Cooper is still doing DJ duty at a local station, but his recollections are pure gold and funny. I was heading to Palm Springs one night when he told a story about when he lived in California and Elton John was his next door neighbor. His very conservative Baptist dad walked in wearing platform shoes, and he asked him what he was doing wearing them..."I like them and they look good"...it seems Elton was having one of his garage sales while dad was staying over.

I am most impressed by what Glen Campbell accomplished early on with the Wrecking Crew. I believe he was the only one, of that group, who did not learn how to read music. (For obvious reasons studio musicians are required to be extremely efficient which requires,in most cases, the ability to be very proficient in reading music. lmprovision plays an important part of the creative process as well.). This is quite an accomplishment. As a musician, it really catches my eye.
RIP Glen Campbell, a guitarist extraordinaire.
