I've been meaning to post some pics of the stands & racks I've made, the pic @nevadablue posted of his reminded me. So I moved the photos to a more friendly host site & here we go. This is the 1st rack I made in February '16 out of some leftover whitewood board from some home repairs. It's stained with Golden Oak & just has a wax rubbed on for a top coat.

I forgot to mention the 1st rack I made was screwed together, but on the 2nd set of racks, there were no fasteners used ... just glue. This is an modified version of my 1st pipe rack. I made it in May '16 & put it together with glue & dowels. It's stained with Gunstock & coated with 3 coats of satin water based oil-modified polyurethane.

That looks very nice, definitely see the work evolving nicely, even though they all look great. The open stem rests are the only way to go.

Another 6 pipe rack stained with Golden Oak with 3 coats of satin water based oil-modified polyurethane. 7 pipe rack stained with Golden Oak over Gunstock & 3 coats of satin water based oil-modified polyurethane. 6 pipe rack single center support stained with Golden Oak & 3 coats of satin water based oil-modified polyurethane. I made another with a storage area on the bottom, this one is deep enough for a 50g flat tin. It's stained with Golden Oak with 3 coats of satin water based oil-modified polyurethane.

1st single pipe stands I made in Sept. '16, were very simple. A little more detail on the 2nd go around, stained with Early American & 2 coats of semi-gloss wb o-m poly. These are some churchwarden stands in Golden Oak & 2 coats of semi-gloss wb o-m poly. That's all that I have made so far, but I plan to make some more. I appreciate all the comments & thanks for looking!

Very nice, thanks for taking the time to post these. I am saving all the pics. This one makes me wish I had mine like it. I made one very similar out of balsa while living in Nicaragua. I had to leave it when I left. I was given a 1" thick balsa board by a friend and made the pipe rack out of it. I have always hoped someone made use of it after I left.

Thanks papipeguy , RDPipes , peteguy , Matthew & @ I'm glad y'all like them. Thanks Darin - I saw one online & knew I could make something similar, glad ya like it. I'm thinking of making one that's a 2 tier pipe rack. Thanks trailboss - They did start looking better after I bought a few things I needed to make them properly. The main reason I made the 1st one was trying to use my Dad's old Decatur with closed holes. I didn't want to modify it, since it was his, so I just used it for some dimensions to get me started. Thanks @nevadablue - I'm sorry to hear you had leave the pipe rack you made behind, guess it's time to make another one. I hope someone put it to good use as well.

TwelveAMnTX - Todd, have you ever considered making these to sell? I know some people that would be interested, myself included. I have a ton of estate pipe racks, but most of them don't fit into the areas that I need them, so they sit boxed up. A few customized racking solutions would be a win win.

Very nice work. I have 4 racks of various sizes but eventually need to find a huge one or a few that hold at least 50 pipes a piece.

I have been bringing them to local pipe club meetings. I sold a single pipe stand & one of the guys bought a 6 pipe rack at last years Tx Pipe Show. Another one of the guys was looking for a stand for his churchwarden. I made a couple & he bought one of them. I've been told I should make an Etsy site or sell them on the forums. I have considered it, but I've never done anything like that before & not really sure of how to do it all. If anyone has any suggestions or tips on how to get started, I'd like to hear them .... feel free to send me a msg. me on here.

I for one would be interested in a stand that holds a large number of pipes..I have several small stands and I really cant have all of my pipes displayed due to the multiple stands i have and the way i have to arrange them on my bookcase.

That would be another problem I'd need to figure out. If I make a large rack it would be hard to box up & the shipping would probably be expensive. I don't know if making it finished & ready to assemble would work. I mentioned that to someone on another forum when they asked about a larger rack. They didn't seem to like the idea.

Thanks antb .... sometimes I wish I lived in a far off land in the middle of nowhere. Penzaholic, we all like looking at some type of rack .... not just pipers either, some are hunters too! Very nice work. I have 4 racks of various sizes but eventually need to find a huge one or a few that hold at least 50 pipes a piece. Thanks Zach! I still haven't built a large rack yet. I have designed & built a curio shelf unit for my Mom. I could change that design up real easy to make it into a rack.

This is one of the racks that I've finished, it's stained with Early American & coated with semi-gloss poly. I'm making few more that I'm bringing to the Texas Pipe Show this weekend.
