Great article Jim, very well written.
I was fortunate to be sitting at my computer last May when P&C sent out an email that they had found pound bags of Mississippi River that had been overlooked for years in the warehouse, and ounce for ounce they offered it far cheaper than the current production... (they had long since ceased selling it by the pound).

Enjoyed the article, Jim. Just got to reading it this morning with my coffee. I have to get some Rainier Levant, Mississippi River and the others besides Plum Pudding, which is the only one I've tried.

Wait a minute.... I'm a big Jim Hutton fan, and Ellery Queen is one of my favorite TV shows. I had always wanted an Irish Walking Hat like the one he wears in this photo, and m'lady got one for me last year. The color of Hutton's hat is not currently made, but I like mine very much.

Great work, Jim! Also a fan of EQ, Had a bootleg set of videos for years, but bought the set when it came out commercially. Love his son's Archie Goodwin to Chaykin's Nero Wolfe. Holding off on my SPC Plum Pudding Special Reserve for the Apocalypse or something as important

Loved the Nero Wolfe series with Hutton's son, too. Btw, they are soon releasing William Conrad's short Nero Wolfe series in DVD. I gotta have that!

I liked Jim Hutton and Timothy is a chip off the old block.....his co-star (dad ) in Ellery Queen, David Wayne always reminded me of Burgess Meredith.

Both Huttons had ways to make their co-stars shine. You look forward to the other characters as much as the star. Tim Hutton, in later TV shows and in his great movie Heavens Fall used actors he worked with in Nero Wolfe. Heavens fall is about the Scottsboro Boys wrongly tried for rape. He had Maury Chaykin and Bill Smittrovich with him. Chaykin (also played Nero Wolfe) was the officer in Dances with Wolves who proudly stood up and declared he was peeing himself at the very moment. Smitrovich played the plainclothes cop in Wolfe and also was in an earlier show, Crime Story, with Dennis Farina. One of the greatest cop shows ever.

He and Jim Hutton were very good friends, and often played poker together. I always thought the father-son relationship in that show was better than just about any I've ever seen in a TV series. You could tell they really cared about each other. Btw, Wayne has the distinction of being in more movies with Marilyn Monroe than any other actor.

The only one I can stomach is Niagara. As to the father son thing, yes, that was perfect. Both queen and Wolfe shows were such perfect period pieces.

Thanks, Jim. Are you going to include the new bunch that was released a few months back? Yakima Valley, Harbor Lights, Puget Sound etc. etc.?

The focus is mainly on Joe and the original blends.

I guess you were prohibited from mentioning Pike's Place which I learned had been discontinued due to a lawsuit not long after I bought some.
Of the Balkan blends done by SPC, Pike's Place was the better one.
