Double Baconator is the only fast food I eat. Truly an excellent burger. I skip the fries and soda. A friend once brought me a Triple Baconator. Now, that was a challenge well met. A triple baconator? CHEEZ-US that's a lot of bacon. Hah hah. I'm not sure I could do it. Too much for me! My friend is up around 6"6" or more and 340 pounds. He consumes greater mass quantities than I.

Today I am going to try to replicate a sandwich from a restaurant in Houston called the Hobbit Hole in the 70's. It was a vegetarian place, but great food and amazing smoothies. Heavy, multi grain bread, sprouts, provelone, avocado, mushrooms and tomatoes. Heated under the broiler. It was a good, full meal for a teenager.

I ate my share of them. Heading over to a neighbor's house for dinner. Wild rabbit with polenta. He is an Italian American whose family had a restaurant in St. Louis. He knows his stuff. Should be good.

One of my favorite sandwiches is the Monte Cristo. Not easy to find these days. Disneyland has the best in recent memory, but Mel's here in Northern California serves one that is respectable.

Just had tacos for dinner and will be having brownies for desert. No ice cream or hot fudge but I have a choice of an ice cream sandwich or a drumstick ice cream cone.

The wld rabbit in a red gravy and polenta with gorgonzola came out just fine. Six rabbits for seven people. No one went hungry. The wine was a New Mexico Syrah and that was perfect.

Last night was a Ribeye and a couple of corn tortillas. It does not get any better than red meat and salt.

Bone chilling Wintry weather always causes me to think of comfort foods, and today was no exception... the temps only reached 75 degrees here in the southwest. Spanish Paella really fit the bill... if you are in the neighborhood, there are plenty of leftovers.

Spanish Paella really fit the bill... if you are in the neighborhood, there are plenty of leftovers. Back in my college days, I had a friend who was a grad student from northern Spain. He taught me to make two dishes: The Spanish Tortilla and Paella. Yours looks excellent!

High praise from a southwestern neighbor...
Thanks for the vote of confidence guys...It has shrimp, tomatoes, chopped clams, smoked oysters, onions, garlic, red bell pepper, rice, chicken, peas and spices... My only mistake was having bought a 4 pound block of frozen shrimp from a hispanic market without reading the shrimp count...110/140 count per pound! ...I shelled and shucked for the duration of the Rams/Saints game....it was worth it though. Not a great cook, just good at following directions (recipes)...having a dad that was a first sergeant took care of following directions...working in food service distribution for over 20 years allowed me to hang out and pick the brains of some of the best chefs from San Francisco, the wine country, and Monterey/ Carmel...learning basic principles and commons sense goes a long way. I do lack common sense, but I make up for it in perseverance. Glad to send the recipe on..it is easy. The wife would be the first one to agree with you. For years she toiled away at the family meals, grinding them out to keep the kids fed...I was busy at work. When I had the LA run, I had pretty much an unrestricted budget on dining and drinks for 3-4 days per week, and I made the most of it (steaks/ seafood/ top shelf liquor) while she fed the household urchins....when I got home, I wanted a home cooked meal...when i got home...she wanted to eat out...quite a conundrum! Now, on the weekends, she is getting payment in kind..it is mutually beneficial though, I enjoy cooking.
