Gang, I had no idea when reading the great Life with Archie Magazine that Jim was involved in Archie's death. I mean, damn. damn. damn. I blew up on the publishers over this. It was more than just a comic. It was an actual magazine with untapped possibilities of Archie and the gang as adults. It was as beautiful as opening up your favorite hobby magazine. Then they killed him. I've tried to get the Warren Commission back together to investigate this for the American People. We can't blame Oswald for this one. What part of people we grew up with growing up was a bad idea? They even have an "out" if they want. They used a parallel universe with a time traveling guy from way early Archie comics. They could bring him back to life. Jim? Jim? Are you listening, Jim? Please? Please? Pulllllleeeeeze! As big of a shame as Archie's death was the death of a magazine style that lifted it above comics... if that were possible. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury, I submit my Evidence!!!  |

Just in from John Walsh's America's Most Wanted was this newspaper clipping of someone disguised as Edward G. Robinson disguised as Jughead, but calling himself Bottleneck, trying to put "The Big Frame" on Archie. What more do you folks need?  |

Anyone see the new weird, "darK' Archie series Riverdale? I. Just. Don't. Get it. This idea started when they cut off the original Archie Comics at the ominous number 666 and then started it over with new art, slightly more edgy characters. Was quickly followed with Afterlife of Archie, sort of a Zombie Achieocolypse. Then the TV show. Somewhere between both. Sort of a Twin Peaks in Riverdale. I do follow the story. It's engaging. What I don't like are the people that they hired to play the parts except Jughead and Reggie. If the show were ten years ago the two female leads (Lana and Chloe) in Smallville would have been great for Veronica and Betty. I hate to say it's good for what it is, as everything is good for "what it is". However, it's a fairly interesting departure for this sixty year old man that most parts of him never grew up |

You think that's bad, Maggie? I actually had two jackass, former Facebook friends who gave me total grief about doing such a comic book. One said I should stuck to my principals and quit my job before doing an issue like that. I told him it was just a comic book, just lines on paper. The story takes place in a future alternative universe; it's fantasy. I said, "It's just a comic book." He said, "No, it's characters people believe in". As this guy has never worked a job, and lives with his mother, who pays all his bills, I told him he had no idea of the real world. I asked if I quit my job, would he support me and my family? He said "No." I said it's easy to judge others when you know nothing about anything, and that if he ever got off his lazy buttage, and worked, he'd have another opinion about what was real and what was not. And then, he had the nerve to call me "judgemental" as he defriended me. I must have laughed about that the rest of the day.

2) Jim should be proud of being part of that series. I love the continuing story, the art, and faithfulness to character. I am in the process of rereading the whole series.
3) I did complain to Archie Comics about it.
4) My sorrow is that they did say there would be no more Archie Gang as adults comics.
5) Everything that comes out of my mouth or keyboard is based on a lifetime of Archie, MAD Magazine, Don Rickles, Andy Griffith and Barney, All the stories my parents and grandparents told me, The Bible, Johnny Dangerously, Stripes, Animal House, Kelly's Heroes, John Wayne's Alamo, Sad Sack, Beetle Bailey, Catskills Humor, and Kahlil Gibran

I never got to do a war or a Western story. I wish I had. The Jeb Stuart series was called "The Haunted Tank".
Companies keep trying different things because comics don't sell much any more. Print in general is not doing well. But the Life with Archie was always billed as an alternate reality series, but some people kept forgetting that. I don't know why since all the characters were adults.

A few times, it was kitch writing. Basically, Bob Kanigher wrote off the top of his head, and being his own editor, he didn't always see the unintentionally funny stuff. But, more often than not, he did and put it in there. |

I remember Haunted Tank. My grandparents had some of my uncles old comic books when I was a kid. Me and a few of my cousins used to read them all the time. There were also a bunch of Casper and Archie as well.
