Mine are Sean Connery and Goldfinger. The worst movie (Woody Allen and Peter Sellers in Casino Royale doesn't count) is Moonraker, though A View to a Kill is weak, too.

Well, if you don't say Sean Connery you're wrong Diamonds Are Forever might be my favorite. Worst are all the ones with Pierce Brosnan, no one stands out to me. Most stupid scene was Pierce in a military transport plane that was on fire and going down. He'd killed all the bad guys and only had to rescue the girl. He gets in a helicopter in the cargo hold, but it falls out the back before he starts it. No worries, he's able to fire it up as he and the girl are plummeting to their deaths, no damage to the rotors, and pulls out of the dive two feet above the ground. And yes, he pulls out of the dive by yanking back on the cyclic. Not sure which movie that was because I changed the channel.

I hate movies like that...billions of pieces of debris from tornados to falling buildings and Bruce Willis or the Rock either surf down a falling skyscraper on a piece of wood or outruns an earthquake.

Ok, I'm pretty on board with Sean Connery and Goldfinger as my favorite. I really didn't like a lot of what followed as Bond actors, but the movies always seemed to be fun, if somewhat ridiculous. Now I'm going to say something that will probably generate some hate mail, but the one oddball Bond movie I liked was On Her Majesty's Secret Service with George Lazenby. Why? Diana Rigg for one, who Bond married in the film, and Telly Savalas as the evil Blofeld. George Lazenby did a credible job, but was a little wimpy compared to Connery. Also, I liked the book, one of my favorite Bond stories.

Yeah...she really tripped my trigger as Emma Peel, Honor Blackman also played opposite of Patrick Macnee in The Avengers!...and she was pansy Galore in Goldfinger also...they were both pretty smokin'!

Plus, you gotta admit that pansy Galore is the greatest name of a movie character like, ever.
I really liked the cool plot in Goldfinger; no, he wasn't going to steal all the gold in Fort Knox, but set of a nuke inside, so it would be all radioactive and unusable, making the gold Goldfinger already owned more valuable. When a new Bond flick came out when I was growing up in England, it was a big family event. We drove all the way to London just to see Man With The Golden Gun. That was the one with Oddjob, if I remember right, but you never got the feeling Roger Moore could beat up an angry Girl Scout.
pansy Galore. Man.

Sean. Dr. No. I have to say that I really like Daniel Craig in the role.

George Lazenby followed by Sean followed by Timothy Dalton followed by Pierce Brosnan.
Reasoning: Lazenby was not perfect in his acting, but fit the Bond mold more like the book and would have grown into the role, even wearing clothes from the same tailor as Sean.
Sean: No explanation needed
Timothy Dalton: Go back and look at those films. He holds up really well and takes the role seriously
Pierce: I wanted him for the role ten years before he got it. I think he was very credible. The writing and cinematography changed over the years and the films weren't as classic, though still enjoyable.
Roger Moore: Though I love a couple of his films he was too tongue in cheek. Also, in Octopussy he dressed as a clown. Hello! James Bond does NOT do clowns!
Daniel Craig: Good actor with continual bad hair day.
Barry Nelson: The very first Bond. Played Barry Nelson
David Niven: Casino Royale. Played David Niven, and poorly at that

Connery for sure - no contest, and I'd probably go along with Goldfinger. It's been a while but I enjoyed all his Bond films, especially Thunderball and You Only Live Twice.
Second would also be Lazenby. I like Casino Royal but it doesn't really count being a spoof. Then again, the Roger Moore films are also like spoofs because he's so cheesy and unconvincing you just can't take him seriously.
I thought Dalton and Brosnan had the looks and the style to be convincing Bonds, but the films were totally unmemorable.
Daniel Craig - I don't get it. There's nothing Bond-like to me about him, or the way he plays the character.

There is only one actor who can play Bond with the authority demanded. You know who that is. The rest are just too effete.
For me there is a thug element, a cold blooded killer, underlying all of Bond's polish and erudite quality. Few actors can bring that to the screen.

I could easily say Sean was the best, but when I saw Lazenby I really hoped he would continue. From You Only Live Twice to the last Dalton I saw every Bond at the theatre. I love them all, but have my faves

The thug element was a major component of Bond in the books. Lazenby had not done enough to show if he could carry it off like Sean, so I defer to you on that point. Craig is all thug and the writing moves too fast. Every movie has a chase scene on top of roofs now. yadda yadda

I hate the later ones where it's all about Bigger! Better! Faster! More! Dude on a horse chasing a hovercraft!
I got through the intro (only) on one of the Brosnan movies. Bond is at an enemy base, that is fixing to get blown up by incoming ICBMs, and he has to escape. He hops in a Russian L-39 Albatros to escape. Of course he knows how to start and fly it.
The Albatros is a two-seat military trainer, made by the Czechs for the Russians, and one of my favorite planes I fly in Flight Simulator. Bond takes off and immediately lights the afterburners (the Albatros doen't afterburners; it's not even supersonic). A bad guy's chasing him in another L-39, and they start firing air to air missiles at each other. The Albatros can't do air to air missiles; when it's used in actual combat, it's a light attack plane, and can only use small bombs or rocket pods. It does have a cannon. No missiles.
The whole scene was like that. I made it through to watch the Albatros, then changed the channel to a cooking show, or something.

PS Yes, the word is effete. Rank the most effete Bonds!
1. Roger Moore 2. Pierce Brosnan 3. I haven't seen the rest 4. Sean Connery is NOT on this list

Looking to a future Bond. This guy might have the requisite mix of characteristics to make a credible Bond. Clive Owen.

Roger Moore was great as "The Saint." Very cool free TV; however, Sean Connery was probably the best English speaking Bond - Shaken, not stirred.

Moore's Simon Templar was another great character and different from Bond. Let's face it, Bond was an assassin. Templar was something of a diplomat. I enjoyed them both but the two shall never meet. Another one, often forgotten was John Drake, aka "Secret Agent" or "Danger Man" in the UK. Patrick McGoohan's character from the mid '60s. Here was another cool one with a malevolent side.

McGoohan would've made a good Bond. The Prisoner is one of the most innovative, intelligent, and surreal things ever on TV. Even though they never say it, his #6 character was always intended to be the Danger Man character John Drake. I was fortunate enough to visit Portmeirion when I lived in Wales - even more amazing than on screen.

You lived in Wales? I moved to the farmhouse Foel Uchaf near Ammanford from Manchester when I was two, and grew up there. It's on top of the Black Mountain, and not sure if it's officially part of the Brecon Beacons, but if not, it's next door. It's called the Black Mountain because it's covered in heather vines, and the dark purple flowers make it look black from a distance.
Now Foel Uchaf is an abused and neglected horse rescue operation.

I've climbed up Black Mountain. Though in reality the gentle slope makes it seem more like a big hill. I was not too far away, in Lampeter. Beautiful country, and probably my favorite part of the whole British Isles. I really miss it there sometimes.

Hard to believe that tiny island has so much variety of interesting places. Most of my free time was spent out Dartmoor way and then in Lancashire and the Highlands/islands of Scotland.
