Does anyone here have an interest in pipe and tobacco related ephemera and materials? Things like catalogs, brochures, vintage ads and the like?

We have a interest group forming over at PM. The intent is to get a pool of interested parties to share their collections or pool funds to buy catalogs of interest when they show up, scan them and distribute them to members. It's just getting organized with Troy and Adam as the chief searcher/proposers and moi as the scanner/digital copy boy. I'm also actively encouraging others to jump in and contribute with their time and/or goods.
We'll be setting up a mailing list and moving its activites off of PM so that it doesn't incur the wrath of he who must not be named though I have no doubt that Kevin will be happy to see the images that result from this.
If you are interested in participating, let me know.

I enjoy them. Not only for the history of the various pipes and tobaccos, but the advertising style used in the old days.

If you are interested in participating, let me know. Jesse, I would be interested. I'll go a step further. If you need a place for the activities to occur, I offer up this place. My goal is to tie together all aspects of the community. If that means linking to other forums, providing feeds of the same, that is what I am going to do. The best chance of success for this place is for it not to become a fiefdom. Feel free to use our resources here to communicate. I would even be willing to setup a board dedicated to the planning and activities. Let me know.

Thanks Justin! I'll make mention of that to Troy and Adam and get their take. For now I think that they will want to stay where the most traffic is while getting this off the ground, but this could be a good opportunity and would be the sort of activity that fits into your mission statement. We have Al, Pruss, and a newcomer named Walt, plus a little bit of interest without commitment from several others.

This little concern has come around at the perfect time for me. I've been thinking about ways to access ephemeris on my limited budget for a while now, and this is the perfect solution. Not only am I able to access matériel that would certainly have escaped me previously, but I get to carouse with engaging and knowledgable folk with a shared interest in pipe lore and history in general.

Justin at one time I did locate some Ebooks on the historyof tobacco. They dated to the 1900's. Is this good.

I am interested in tobacco related printed materials, but currently have nothing like that to share. Could I participate?
I may have the ability soon to do some research on a couple tobacco firms that interest me and I'd share what I found, if relevant.

I have about 6 books about tobacco, printed in the mid through late 1800's. Also have several Tobacco trade type magazines from the 1930's-40's. I don't think the books would be scan-able.

I enjoy looking at old photos, and have bought a couple of old ads of ebay. Not sure if I will ever get around to ever framing them...

I've been lucky to know/have known some of the great paper collectors and have been able to spend time in a couple of their library's. My paper collection is humble but I have put together a solid pipe/cigar library of my own including books, magazines/periodicals, catalogs and 18 years worth of every brochure and handout I could get my hands on at pipe shows. I am a passionate Castello ephemera collector and love collecting the "stuff" about as much as I do the pipes. I'm lucky to have a wife who accepts my passion (she signed for a cool piece that arrived from Italy Thursday without grousing) I enjoying looking around my living room to see some of my $illy do-dads scattered around the room.

I hope we get Jesse to bring some of this over here. Would really love to be involved.
If not, I have no problem cross linking over to PM.com. It's all about sharing information after all.

Hi Guys!
It's very cool that so many of you are interested in participating! Contact Adam (buroak) at the following email address:
pipesephemera@gmail.com
to let him know of your interest and to contribute any ephemera that you can. We've purchased two rare catalogs, a Civic and an Oppenheimer catalog, that I will be scanning and converting to PDF's for distribution, and we've collected a good war chest to go after hard to find items. But I think that it would be better if we could contribute from our own collections and avoid unnecessary expense.
I've just completed scanning and setting up a 1939 Wally Frank catalog that I have, and will be starting my copy of the 1962 Barling Retailer's Catalog next week. Then, depending on when I receive the two purchased catalogs, I'll scan the 1962 Barling 150th Anniversary Catalog, and possibly the 1926 Loewe catalog that are in my motley collection. It takes me a few full working days to scan and convert as I'm trying to do this right. It is a lot of work. So I'll be doing this around work and life. I figure that it will take a couple of months to do the existing catalogs.
I can't scan books. That takes a special scanner, a book scanner.
