What can I say...simple straight forward...an every man's tobacco from back in the day! The pipe smokers from the days of yore knew a good thing and thats why this blend has stayed around for so many years! I tried this for the first time a few nights ago..yes call me a FORMER tobacco snob that would never smoke a "CODGER" blend..This blend has it all..smoothness..flavor..nary a bite..another example of missing out on something good!

I need to give it another try. I am sure the day I tried it my allergy issues were affecting everything.

SWRA is one of the best tasting blends I've had the pleasure to smoke.

Might also enjoy Edward G. Robinson Pipe Blend... always a nice intermission from the more unforgiving blends... I never tire of it all day or in between...

For years, SWRA was the only OTC I would smoke. It's still my favorite OTC, though Amphora Brown gives it competition. In fact, I went to SWRA because Amphora Brown disappeared from stores in my area back in the early 1980s. I have noticed a slight change in the blend from the old days (more cocoa now), but it's always delivered for me.

I revisited this one about a month ago. Forgot how good it was. Glad I did.
I mix it with some C&D blending Burley to ramp up the strength a bit, but it's just fine on it's own too.

Typical OTC, boring. Others far superior.

They must be doing something right, they sell a lot of product.
It is nice to have a no muss no fuss pouch blend that one can have at a cheap price that most non smokers can be complimentary on the smell, and unlike flakes or plugs there is no prep involved. Having all that going on when you are out and about, on vacation... and if it dries out, no big loss.

In my cart. I tried SWR a while back and did not like it. The aromatic sounds like it is worth a try.

Having all that going on when you are out and about, on vacation... and if it dries out, no big loss. Those are the big pluses for me. Sometimes, you need a work and play smoke that's not overly complicated, stays lit, and gives you enough flavor to hold your interest when you're doing stuff.

JimInks- Jim I was asked in chat what I was smoking and replied LTF and SWRA..the reaction was .... "TOGETHER?" and then that sounds like a viable mix... I was not smoking them together but now i am curious....any thoughts?

I want it to be great. I have a couple pouches from my recent venture into olde tymme blends. So far, Paladin, Half & Half and others have been unsmokable. They taste like they're over- cased in chemicals. So far, Carter Hall stands as the only old school otc I really enjoy.

Try a flake of the LTF (rub out flake first)and equal amount of SWRA. As the saying goes. Try it you might like it.

Not wanting to speak for Jim, my feelings might be similar to his: I like having tobacco categorized the way it was meant to be smoked. Jim has almost 2K reviews on tobaccos. The joy is finding the tobacco that someone else produced that fits you, and cataloging and keeping all these things separate is an orderly way to do things. I have been buying old time tobaccos for the purpose of them being noted and remembered. OK, I am a history nut

I would place SWRA in my top ten of favorite blends. It is a blend that will provide a smooth, flavorful smoke every time.

Bought a tub from my local shop a few days ago. I will crack it open when I get over this cold. Last time I smoked SWRA I may have had a cold as well. I thought it okay, but perfumy. I need to try it as Sparks said. It has been working with other tobaccos.

I am enjoying my SWRA. Glad I bought a tub. It is a mellow, no fuss, easy to keep lit blend. I am not overwhelmed by it or dissapointed in it. It is a good one for my cobs, which tend to be my pipes for smoking while working in the yard.

A pouch lasts me a longtime, buying a tub is a real commitment to a new blend. To my palate, this is a radical blend and that liqueur component can sometimes be searing on my taste buds. Not knocking it, that's just how it affects me.

Not knocking it, that's just how it affects me. I had read enough reviews from guys whose reviews I have found pretty reliable, so I was pretty sure I would like it. Turns out, I did. If we all had the same tastes in tobacco, the offerings might be pretty dull. A lot of people like the standard SWR. I don't.
