You guys talked me into opening a pouch today. Dad blamed bunch of enablers! What goes around, comes around. Your positive review helped me decide to buy a whole tub! Glad I did. 🍳🍳🍳🍳🍳🍳 I have seven tubs. Probably not enough.

I'll have to give Edward G. Robinson Pipe Blend a try. Never smoked SWR or carter Hall and those old blends but I remember as a child seeing adults, mostly old men, smoking those types of brands. Maybe back then that was pretty much all that was available in most parts!

From a price perspective, I don't see the point of OTCs to be honest - unless you really like the blend, of course. There are plenty of excellent bulk blends you can get cheaper than c. $5 for 1.5 oz (or more if not shopping online).

It is definitely my favorite of the OTC blends and also is in my top ten list of tobacco blends.

Good point. I came to pipe smoking later in life so I don't really have the same associations, and my dad smoked an English blend. I guess the fact that I use his pipes and smoke blends like he did is my personal version of maintaining tradition etc. Pipe smoking sure has emotional resonance with a lot of us.

I think you raise a good point though; that OTC blends are hardly at the bottom price wrung nor necessarily the most accessible. This then begs the question, what are today's OTCs?

I need to go get some more of this. It really kicked me into pipe smoking with a nice little basket pipe I bought as my "first" real pipe. It's a pleasant enough tobacco that doesn't need to be fancy to be good.

I smoke SWR daily and SWRA occasionally. I'm not really a fan of aromatic tobaccos.

one notes, that many of the respondents wouldn't consider themselves aromatic smokers either.

I don't pay attention to whether or not the tobacco is aromatic. I rarely smoke indoors. It's the taste that really counts, and SWRA is pretty good!

I haven't tried this one yet. Is the tobacco in the tub significantly better than that in the pouch?

I haven't tried this one bet. Is the tobacco in the tub significantly better than that in the pouch? I believe this pouch versus tin debate originated due to smokers getting old pouches that sat on the shelf too long. If the blend is popular and sells/turns over at a regular rate, there is no reason one form should be fresher than the other. When I last had SWRA pouched, it benefitted from open pouch drying. I buy Carter Hall from a high volume dealer, specifically as volume sales insure freshness. When pouches sold out one time from this same source, a tub of CH was noticeably less fresh. Either/or though should not be a problem with SWRA though, given its aromatic moisture content.

Smoking my way through my first pouch. It is a pretty good smoke. Probably will be getting a tub. It is a pleasant surprise.

I picked up some to try. At this rate, it will probably be a Saturday smoke for me. I can usually get a bowl or two in a day with multiples on the weekend.

Cheers. I might get my friend's wife to pick some up next time she's in USA. She goes there quite often. I don't want to be putting her out, asking her to go to a B&M for me, but a wee trip to wallmart or something like that in passing would be grand.

SWR and SWRA are OTC blends. Here in NC even places that sell mostly cigarettes sell a few different OTC blends.

It's in the bowl right now. I like it. It smokes very easily, but considering what I tend to smoke, it's kind of a mild aromatic.

Tried a pouch of this back in the late 70s early 80s. Never went back for more. Now SWR is a go to all day smoke.

Yup, a very mild enjoyable smoke, especially for those first trying to enjoy smoking a pipe. This blend is definitely repeatable any day!! I never enjoyed SWR, SWRA is completely different 👌👍

After quite a few less than satisfactory experiences with aromatics, I decided to avoid them. But I later read some very favorable comments on SWRA from Jim Inks & thought I’d risk buying one pouch. I’m very glad I did. It’s a favorite now & part of my regular rotation.
