Anyone watching it? I hear that it is quite good and a fair representation.
I generally work when it comes on, and don't have a digital recorder... hoping that I can stream it later.

I love a lot of what Burns does. Have not seen this. It has a little to do with Xuan being Vietnamese and remembering most of it. She's 71, so she was around for all of it. I remember the pictures in Life and Look Magazines, which still haunt me. Side note, when we were engaged, walking under the Arch in StL, a Cardinal hit a home run and the fireworks went off. Freaked her out pretty much. The one doc on it I wanted to watch, but she def said no on, was the one narrated by Richard Basehart.
I'm like you, Charlie. If I can see it streaming, I'll watch it while she plays video games. Good topic. I hope others join in

I have recorded each episode and watched none of them. Hard to relive this sad history. I will probably go through them this winter when there is little else to do around here.

I've seen three episodes. You can tell he's not trying to make it political, but trying to present both sides as fairly as he can. It's pretty basic, I mean if you've read much about the war, you may not learn anything new, but credit where credit's due to Ken Burns; you can tell he's not trying to promote an agenda.
I've seen his civil war series, and everything I saw was new to me, though they played that one song way too much. The music's much more varied in this one.

Recorded it, may or may not watch it, Ken is a political person now, you can't put lipstick on a pig. Having said that I don't down the series, just heard it was slanted, you had to be there, fighting for your country and then people MFing and spitting on you. Didn't leave a good taste in my mouth, that's why my TV will not ever be tuned to PRO Sports, Nation of Whinners now.

Guys, let's keep politics out of this. We are walking dangerously close to the edge.

No need, Brad. I'm not here to stifle anyone's opinion. I just don't want the thread to spiral.

I've read that he strives to tell the human side of the story on both sides, rather than just the political and military aspects. That's got to be a good thing, and is a rarity is historical documentaries. I won't be watching it, though. How many times do I need see that "war is hell"?

too soon . . . .it's recent history to me and I don't need a refresher course. That is the way I see it. It is still on my mind what with the Vets I know here. The facts of the war should speak for themselves; i.e. no need to add commentary. Sparks: Agreed we do not want this forum to take a turn into political views.

Many of the senior NCOs in my armored cavalry regiment served in Vietnam as did my uncle who flew choppers. This was obviously a fairly exhaustive undertaking. It's also extremely well documented. I've watched every episode and haven't seen anything with which I could disagree in terms of telling the story.

I am a Vietnam Veteran. Such "TV" shows make me uncomfortable. And the feeling that the media betrayed the Vietnam Veteran, my level of trust is very low. I too have the feeling that if you were not a serviceman or woman in Vietnam, it's like me telling you about brain surgery, with out ever having been a surgeon, or in the surgery room. The war was far to complicated to be covered in a show or mini-series. All such shows are far too poorly informed, and make far too many false assumptions. I've seen many a documentary extolling the virtues of the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army. I've also have seen where some say 1968 Tet was a victory for the NVA and VC. If having your forces decimated so as to be ineffective beyond harassment tactics is a victory, I guess our ignorant and ill informed media was right. Battle is confusing, war made of battles is even more confusing. Now you take someone who barely know which end of AK-47 the bullets come out of and let him report on a battle, much less the war as a whole. Never having worn a uniform except at a burger joint, and have he or she report on military affairs. It is getting rather late, The body and brain say it's bed time. As you can tell I could say much more, laters then.
