Scottie, you need to get out of the bushes and make some more pipes. I keep checking your site with no luck. Christmas killed December and everyone being sick killed January. I'm back in the shop and have made 12 pipes in the past 2 weeks. The STL show is this weekend. Check my Instagram or Piersel Pipes Facebook page for pics of the pipes I'm taking to the show. If you see one you like, let me know. I'll let one go before this weekend. Thanks. I may talk to you about a commission later this year. Right now I have one in works.

I've always loved bonsai trees but never even attempted it. Now is the time. My plan is to start from seeds and go the full cycle with them. All the different seeds I ordered just came in the mail so I'll let ya know how the germination goes in 3-?? weeks.
Growing from seed, I'll pretty much just be growing trees for the next few years, but I'm ok with that. Patience grasshopper, patience.

Had some nice Muhgo pine(sp) red maple, and some cypress that I grew from seed...had them up in Washington DC, left them with a friend just as winter was approaching (1976)...came back from down in Miami for a short vac. and found frozen plants. That was the end of my bonsai

That was the end of my bonsai That brings back memories from my Dad during WWII, he remembered the Japanese bombers dropping out of the sky and screaming “ bonsai “ on their PA system just before crashing into buildings, ships and bridges. My Mom was always into plants, they were all over our home. I still remember the day my Mom brought home a gorgeous bonsai tree that was given to her. My Dad looked at her and said “ that $hit is not staying in this house, you forget what I went through during the war “! My Mom wanted to find the plant a good home, my Dad said...” I’ll take care of it right now “!! He brought it outside in the backyard along with his double barrel 12 gauge shotgun. Next thing my Mom and I heard was both barrels going off and my Dad yelling “ bonsai “! This actually became part of our family discussion for many years. My Dad was the real “ Archie Bunker “!!!

Wow, that's some story.
I love the trees. I would try to grow one but I thought they take hundreds of years to look right. Maybe it depends on the tree.

Wow...lonecoyote...that was a severe reaction. I can't blame him though...I guess I might have the same reaction had I gone through that experience.

Well most of them have sprouted. There's still a few more inside waiting and 1 batch still in the fridge.

In our contemporary world, yeah one would say that was an overreaction, when you study history and read what atrocities the Japanese did let alone live through it you understand it.
A roadside vendor had Bonsai’s for sale near my home in 2007, and I bought a beautiful bonsai, after a few months it started looking sickly, and we noticed that it was infested with small ticks... the thing was totally infested with them. I know nothing about how ticks produce or how they grow, but the soil or tree was the culprit.. eventually the tree died. I saw the guy on the side of the road a few times later, and wanted to ask for my $65 back but blew it off.
